What is it with us and needy animals???
I don't know if you guys remember us finding the old chihuahua a couple of years ago and no one ever claiming him... Well, today, my dad called me, and told me to bring him some of Jazzy's dogfood down to the building because he had a dog down there. We are out in the country and in the middle of a snowstorm (again) and this poor long hair short legged floppy earred dog was out in the middle of the road about to get run over three times before my dad was able to convince in to come to him. The poor thing was covered in ice, briars, mats, and BARBED WIRE FENCE!!! He was pitiful. But such a sweetie. So dad and I got him thawed out and fed and cleaned up some. The fence was stuck right against his skin, and the barbed part was touching his skin, and the sweet thing never even whimpered or tried to growl at us. It was like he knew we were helping him. We have never seen him around this road before, and he had sticks and stuff in his fur, like he had come through the woods, probably over the mountains around our house. It is still snowing, so we have him in the building which is heated. He has a nice warm blanket, some doggy toys, which he is having a ball playing with, and food and water. The kids spent most of the day down there playing with him. I'd bring him up here, but he is male, and not fixed, and we have a female who isn't fixed yet. We are planning on doing that this summer after we get back from vacation. Sooooo..... I'm so glad dad happened to be down there when this pup was passing through or he would have never made it through the night. Poor little thing....
The poor little creature. Thank goodness your dad was able to coax him into his car. Kudos to you and your dad. Do you think he has an owner?
I hope he does. He doesn't have a tattoo or anything. I'm going to call our animal hospital on Monday. It was closed already today. We are rural! I also couldn't get through to the shelter to see if anyone has called looking for him. I've watched our local channel and there are no ads for a little lost doggy, so no luck there, either. Sad thing, in our area, there are lots of people who set animals off when they can't do anything with certain behaviors or when they just decide they don't want them anymore. Or they let them run around unattended and expect them to take care of themselves. He may have gotten mixed up in the snow, but he's pretty skinny, and matted badly, so even if he just got lost recently, he wasn't well taken care of beforehand, either. Oh, I wasn't really clear in my above post, dad saw him from his garage and went out and coaxed him out of the road into the garage (me calling it a "building" is something left over from my kid years and stems from when it was a "building" and not really a "garage"...long story....hehe!)
Awww, poor thing. I'm glad your dad saw him.
You guys did the humane thing. Too many people would not have bothered. Thank you!
Thats a great thing you are doing for the little guy. Is your Animal Hospital going to be open on Monday. I know here a lot of things are going to be closed...my dh is even off work.
We would have had to bring the dog in the house. The temp was hovering around zero last night. That's nice that you had a heated garage, for him.
I was thinking the same thing Dawn! Thats cool your Dad has a heated garage/shop!! Nice.
Yeah, thankfully, our Animal Hosp. is open. And thankfully, the garage is heated because it was COLD here last night, too. My dad usually doesn't leave the heat going in the garage overnight but we did since the dog was staying in there. My husband went down early this morning and checked on him. Said he peeked through the windows and saw him running around playing with his squeaky toy. He fed and watered him and took him outside for a few minutes. Dad's down there now. Dad spends a lot of time in the garage. There's cable, water, and electricity, so dad and dog are both happy! LOL!
Keep us posted on the little guy. I am so happy you found him!
So glad your dad saw him. The little guy must feel so much better!
Sounds like a nice garage! Ours is unattached and unheated. There is no cable! LOL! It does have electricity, though.
