OMG This WEATHER!!!!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive February 2006: OMG This WEATHER!!!!
By Cocoabutter on Thursday, February 16, 2006 - 08:49 pm:

In Michigan it is spring/summer/winter/fall all wrapped into one messy package. To the north, we have snow (2 feet) and near freezing temps. To the south, we have rain and tornado watches and temps in the 50's. In the middle (where I am) we have freezing rain, hail, and thunderstorms with pink lightening flashes most of the day. I could have sworn I heard something about a flood watch or warning in there, too. There is an ice storm warning in effect for my county until 10 PM, at which time a new advisory goes into effect- a high wind advisory, for most of the state. Winds could get up to 50 mph blowing down frozen tree limbs and causing power outages. Many are already without power. Isabella County is without 911 services.

In Indiana and Illinois there are various wind advisories, tornado watches and warnings, and severe t-storm warnings.

Saturday we will get down to below freezing here in Michigan, and 28 below in Wisconsin.

So, that is why I haven't been on the computer or on the debate board. I have had my computer unplugged most of the afternoon, and now I am waiting for the wind to knock out our power. I think we did something to tick off Momma Nature!

Wish us luck!

I know what you mean. I live in Oklahoma and today we started at a high of 78 and by 3 or so we are now at 30 and still dropping with snow and sleet for the next couple days. Also east of us they were under a tornato warning what a crazy weather system

Lisa, my mom's about 30 minutes south/west of you and she said it's been crazy today! She's without power right now. At least she has a gas stove and heat, an old plug in phone and a cell phone with charger in her car. We had some nasty weather last night. We only got about 1/2" of snow, but with the fog yesterday when the temps dropped last night (about 2 degrees) the moisture froze on the roads and then the wind blew what little snow there was in select areas. Shoot, I turned a corner today, from a full stop, going about 3-5mph and instead of going straight on the street I turned onto I did a 180! I ended up with my front tire up on the curb and the back one slid around and hit it. Thankfully there were no other cars around and my car's okay and driving fine. I was very worried about the tire alingments and axle. I think I'll still take it and get it checked. I hope your weather's better soon. :)

Uh Yeah! We had tornado sirens going off today just south of Chicago. Talk about crazy for FEB!!!

By Paulas on Thursday, February 16, 2006 - 11:02 pm:

We don't have any tornado weather but it's freezing cold. -26C (-15F) right now. They say it should only last a day or two...thank God!

By Dawnk777 on Thursday, February 16, 2006 - 11:05 pm:

We got 9-3/4 inches of snow that fell furiously and hard, most of the day! I have never seen whiteout conditions for so long, during a storm. Our driveway is a mess and the snowplows recently came through. Yikes. DH is working. That will be his job tomorrow.

We even had lightning and thunder, while it was snowing hard! LOL! That was a bit freaky!

By Debbie on Friday, February 17, 2006 - 12:07 am:

I am in a far northwest suburb of Chicago. It was crazy today. We had rain/freezing rain/thunder this morning. Then it poured this afternoon. We were suppose to get some snow tonight, but I don't know if we are going to get any. It was almost 60 on Wed. and tomorrow it is only suppose to be 18. Crazy weather this winter.

By Marcia on Friday, February 17, 2006 - 12:13 am:

We've got a bunch of snow earlier in the week, and today we've had freezing rain and now rain and thunder and lightning. It's warmer now than it was all day - around 36 right now at just after midnight.
I heard it was going to be -50 with the wind chill in Alberta, I think. Brrrr!!!!

By Unschoolmom on Friday, February 17, 2006 - 06:51 am:

I've hung out my laundry two days in a row becuase the days were so beautiful. We (meaning of course my dh) have had to shovel just twice so far and it feels more like spring then winter.

I can't remember a winter so mild ever before.

By My2girlygirls on Friday, February 17, 2006 - 07:28 am:

It has been 65-70 degrees this week and it is supposed to drop to 32 degrees tomorrow and snow!! and then be in the 50-60's next week.

By Karen~moderator on Friday, February 17, 2006 - 07:30 am:

We have crazy weather too. It turned COLD last weekend - we actually had freezes at night -, now have the AC on, and another cold front is coming through this weekend, *just* in time for Mardi Gras parades.

By Colette on Friday, February 17, 2006 - 03:50 pm:

We are having crazy winds today in Ma. I just got home from school and the winds picked my table up off my deck, and dumped it in my driveway AND snapped the umbrella (which was closed) in two.

By Dawnk777 on Saturday, February 18, 2006 - 12:21 am:

How about -4 with a -30 windchill. It was no picnic being in my friends' van that doesn't heat up very well, or taking my dog outside to do her business! I'm in the house for the night now, though.

The good news is that it will be cold tomorrow, but then start warming up to more human temperatures on Monday! We should have had this arctic blast, way back in January, when we were having 30 degree temps everyday. The thing is now, it can't possibly stay that cold, since the normal daily temperature is above 32 now and we have 10-1/2 hours of daylight!

By Dawnk777 on Saturday, February 18, 2006 - 07:45 am:

According to Weather Underground
-15 °F / -26 °C

Windchill: -37 °F / -38 °C

My home thermometer says -12 F/ -24 C!

I opened the door, for Jasmine to go outside and she didn't just run outside. Gee, I wonder why! LOL! It took a bit of coaxing to get her out! She peed and ran right back to the door.

By Kernkate on Saturday, February 18, 2006 - 07:57 am:

Dawn thats down right cold!!! Our weather was so nice the past few days and now we are back to the 20's and its suppose to get colder...This is our forecast for this morning..More snow on the way. Good day to stay indoors.

Nowcast as of 7:38 am EST on February 18, 2006

Now
A band of moderate to heavy snow will move south, and extend from Sullivan County, westward through northern Wayne, Susquehanna, and Bradford counties, during the next hour or two. This band will drop a quick inch or two of snow and produce brief gusty winds, causing near white-out conditions.

By Melanie on Saturday, February 18, 2006 - 01:51 pm:

Crazy weather for us as well! It's not often our California mountain community sees snow! We didn't get much and it didn't last long, but even the teachers at the school couldn't resist having an extra recess when it was coming down so they could throw snowballs at each other. LOL.

We drove from Baton Rouge to Little Rock yesterday. DH is supposed to preach at a church here tomorrow and we were going to spend time with a guy and his family whom Dh recently met through their blogs. It is this guy's church where DH is supposed to preach. Well....we had a little ice storm last night. We can't go sightseeing, all four of us are in a hotel together (so far so good, but I'll probably be singing a different song later this afternoon), and to top it off it looks like church will be cancelled tomorrow. Robert's friend can't even get out of his subdivision. Since we're right off the interstate we can get to places to eat and we'll try to make it to a movie this afternoon and then probably home tomorrow. We're still waiting for the final verdict if there will be a church service tomorrow or not. Crazy weather indeed!

By Debbie on Saturday, February 18, 2006 - 02:17 pm:

Wow, Pam. Ice storms are no fun. We are -13 with the windchill right now. We were -25 when I woke up this morning. Yikes!

By Conni on Saturday, February 18, 2006 - 03:54 pm:

Melanie, pretty pictures!

Pam, I am glad you made it safely to LR!

Debbie, that is COLD!!!

We woke up to about 4 inches of snow this morning! The neighbors are taking all the kids sledding in a few minutes. :)

By Dawnk777 on Saturday, February 18, 2006 - 04:04 pm:

3.1 degrees now and -11 windchill. It's really not as cold as it was at 6:30am, when I was out with the dog! LOL! From -15 to 3 degrees is almost 20 degrees difference! LOL! One more cold night and then it starts to warm up again.

By Tink on Saturday, February 18, 2006 - 05:31 pm:

How fun, Melanie! We were hoping to get some of that low snowfall but it was just too warm. That will probably be one of the few times I consider 35 degrees to be "too warm"! I love that shot of the snowy trees.
