Spent half my night at the emergency vet
My poor Husky was having cluster seizures (going in and out of them) so we had to take her in for an iv of valium and an overnight stay at the vet. She gets to be on phenobarbitol permanently now. She has epilepsy but hasn't had seizures enough to need to be medicated. I guess now's the time. My poor baby. And after spending $700 I should be saying "my poor pocketbook" but I don't care. She was my baby before Kaitlyn and she will be my baby until the end. I have to pick her up at 9. We sure weren't expecting that last night.
{{{{{Melissa}}}}} We had a Husky/Wolf hybrid when we lived in Panama. She went to live with one of my brothers when she was 2yo and then with the other brother (same house--one moved out and the other moved in! lol) a few years later. She ended up having seizures about 1 1/2 years ago and it got so bad she was having them every 2-3 minutes. My brother and SIL called the vet and he said at that point besides running tests that would probably end up costing them upwards to $1000 there wasn't anything he could do. She was 9yo. I hope your first baby is okay. More hugs.
We've had the same problems with Barley. It's quite scary!!! Luckily, pheno isn't that expensive and you can get the meds at any pharmacy, even if it is for your dog!! Tell us how the homecoming is!
I know how scary that can be. Your pets are like your own babies. My dachshund Tommy two days ago was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease, he went from being able to walk to dragging his hind legs behind him. Very scary, we thought we were going to have to put him down, the vet took an xray of his spine and determined that there was only one spot in his spine that was bad, the rest of the spine looks okay. So now he's been on steroids, muscle relaxers, etc.. He is showing improvement and the vet is optimistic that this can be turned around. The bill was over 400.00, but we couldn't see not going through with it when he's a part of the family. His little bug eyes are staring back at you like take care of me... How could you not. Good luck with you puppy dog....
Thanks girls. She doing okay today. Still pretty drugged up on the valium and phenobarbitol they gave her. She's been either sleeping or drinking water today, both side effects of the medication. I'm just happy seeing that she is at least comfortable, even if she looks like she had a few too many margaritas! We have to take her to her vet in 2 weeks to check her bloodwork and whatever other diagnostics they'd like to do. DH was actually very supportive through the whole thing. It surprises me because he grew up in a family where a pet was a pet and nothing more. I actually learned last night that he really does love my doggie, lol. He cancelled a trip for next weekend so I can have the money for Nikki's vet visit in a few weeks and not have to pay less on credit cards. For those who know my DH, that's a big improvement from his typical behavior. I've been having a hard time realizing that my dog is getting older so last night just felt like confirmation of it. I've had her since I was 17. I want her to be a puppy forever.
Melissa, I'm sorry your pooch is going through that. Pets truly are family members. I hope she'll be OK.
I hope your doggie does good on the phenobarbital. We have had a few dogs on Phenobarbital for extended amounts of time, they have all done well. I will think good doggie thoughts for your baby.
Hope she is doing better today!!
I'm sorry. Hope she is doing better soon.
Im glad she is doing better. It is so hard to see our puppies when they are sick.
