Strange reaction to drug to stop contractions.
I went in for braxton hicks to be monitored. I never had them before. Seems the contractions were brought on by me not drinking enough water due to dh John being home sick and there is no room for air and water and food. So doctors gave me something to stop the contractions. I think they should have giving me a iv bag for hydration and I would have been fine. Better if I stayed home a drank a gallon of water. But who would have know I would have a strange reaction to the drug. Seems I had an very strange reaction to the debuterol or what ever it was. It pulled most of my potassium out of my blood into cells or something. My blood pressure dropped very low and my heart beat dropped very very low. I puked and peed all over the table. I think they almost killed me. There was ten people in the room holding me hand. So now I am drinking soup and oatmeal and counting glasses of water. I am very tramatized by the whole thing. I am bearly moving. I feel like a walking house with no air in it. Ds is sick now too. The baby was fine throughout not suffering at all. 7 weeks to go...
Wow, how scary!!! I hope you're feeling better quickly!!! Hooray for the final countdown!!
Yikes! (((FEONA)))
Ditto Trina! Glad you and the baby are okay now! Ame
Wow, how frightening!!! ((((HUGS))))
Feona, I'm assuming the drug they used was Terbutaline Sulfate. I checked, and some of the side effects can include nervousness, restlessness, insomnia, headache, rapid heart rate, nausea, hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) and hypokalemia (low blood potassium). I was on this for pre-term labor also, then on some orally after a week in the hospital, and I also had to take something else to counteract the rapid heart rate. I remember it as being a horrible experience - 2 months of that, since I went into pre-term labor at the beginning of my 7th month. I'm sure that was an awful experience for you, and not just you, for John as well. Take care of you!!!! You're almost there! {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

Sometimes I think Karen should have been a pharmacist.
How awful. Put this on your list of medications never to take again! Good Luck!
I'm glad you're better now, but what an awful experience. (((hugs)))
ROFL Debbie! Embarrassingly enough, much of what I know comes from personal experience.
oh my! I didn't even know you were pregnant, so congratulations! Feel better and take care!
I was on that drug with my first baby for premature labor. It's a bronchodilator and I had a bad reaction to it as well. My lungs filled up with fluid and my blood pressure dropped too low. The doctor took me off of it immediately. It was very scary because I went into respiratory distress. I can never go on that medication or anything like that again for that reason. I was on bed rest the entire pregnancy up until the 34th week with my second baby because I co not take that medication. Otherwise, congratulations!
What a scary thing to happen. I hope you are feeling better now. Hang in there, not too much longer.
