Our province had a surplus this year due to larger than expected oil revenues so every man, women and child in the province is getting $400. Our $1600 worth of cheques arrived today. We are using them to pay off some loans. I am so excited.

WooHoo! That's a big chunk of unexpected change! :)

Nice! I love unexpected money!!! Use a little to treat yourselves.

Holy crap. I think I might move to Canada! :) I bet they want all the tax revenue from the people spending it once they got it!! LOL It's the "Republican Way"!!
What's your sales tax rate?

By Crystal915 on Friday, January 27, 2006 - 10:51 pm:

Woo hoo!!!!

By Marcia on Friday, January 27, 2006 - 11:07 pm:

Our sales tax is insane!! It's 15% in Ontario. Our provincial tax is 8%, and the GST (goods and service tax) is 7%.
Way to go, Paula!!! I just got some major disability money back for one of my kids, retro for the last 3 years. What a wonderful feeling to see that money in the bank!!

By Paulas on Friday, January 27, 2006 - 11:48 pm:

We are in a very profitable province...as long as the oil is around. We have the GST on some things but there is no provincial sales tax...and my husband wants to move back to Nova Scotia! :(

By Marcia on Saturday, January 28, 2006 - 12:03 am:

No PST???? WOW, how did you luck out???? What were the taxes in NS?

By Paulas on Saturday, January 28, 2006 - 01:12 am:

Nova Scotia now has the HST (Harmonized Sales Tax..combined provincial and GST). It is 15% and is on most things. I think food might be excluded.

Albertans. :(

:)

Ah well, Our taxes are higher here but the cost of living is a lot less as well and you can't smell the sea in Alberta.

If you ever do come back to Nova Scotia Paula, consider yourself invited to my place for supper and cards.

By Paulas on Saturday, January 28, 2006 - 07:21 pm:

Dawn, do you really think the cost of living is cheaper there? I agree that houses are less expensive but the everyday stuff like groceries and clothes are just as expensive and gas is as expensive or more. I'm not sure about electricity and natural gas though.

Where are you again Dawn? We are planning a visit this summer for 3 weeks.
