Cat...or anyone else recommending a vacuum?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive January 2006: Cat...or anyone else recommending a vacuum?

Do you still like your Dyson? I want to get a new vacuum so I don't have to lug ours up and down 2 flights of stairs.
Our main level has MAJOR pet hair...ugh.

I also wanted to get a battery powered hand held for the stairs themselves. My back is killing me with all this cleaning and picking up Connor lately.

Would love any input...TIA!! :)

DH is going to laugh when he comes home a year from now with all these cleaning gadgets!! LOL

Heidi, we do still have our Dyson. I'm not as thrilled with it as when we first got it, though. It still works well, it just doesn't seem to work as well as it used to. Maybe I just need to give it a good cleaning. I did clean the brush/roller out the other day. I have pretty long hair and I tend to shed and that all gets wrapped around there. I also had to clean out a bunch of cat hair and carpet fuzzies from around the brush/roller. How much are you wanting to spend? There are some really high end vacuums out there. The Dyson will run you at least $400 (you should have BX/PX privelages now--check online, delivery is usually free). I'm sure the ladies here will give you some recomendations. I'm not saying don't buy a Dyson. I just saying if you're willing to spend a little more you can probably get something better. It is a good vacuum, though and works well for our needs. Good luck. :)

Ok, Cat that just burst my bubble. lol I have been begging for a Dyson for 6mos now, thinking they were the thing to get. Now I am not sure...

I bought a cheap lightweight bagless vacuum about 3 months ago for about $49.00... lol It is super easy to carry upstairs. I LOVE the bagless. Certainly not the best vacuum. But for $49 it sure does vac up alot of hair and dirt.

Sorry, Conni! lol Like I said, it works for what we need it for. I just wish it worked better. :) It is bagless, but we have two area rugs that are only about a year old and I have to empty the canister after doing just one of them. I wish they'd stop shedding!

I have the dyson animal and love it! I love the fact that I can vaccum all of the hardwood, and tile with it and it actually picks up. My other vaccums would scatter it everywhere. The price is high but I did find it when homedepot was having a clearance on them, and I paid $329.00. The yellow one works awesome, also and it is less expensive. Amazon has them refurbished, and usually have a coupon for 20 off if you spend 125.00, sometimes you can get them for under $300.00. :)

I found this one...the DC14 Animal one. Anyone find any cheaper?

Dyson Vacuum
I'm nervous about refurbished...anyone buy a refurbished one?

By Mrsheidi on Monday, January 23, 2006 - 12:39 pm:

It says "Factory Serviced"...is that the same as refurbished? (Blonde moment) :)

Another Dyson animal owner here and I LOVE it!! I have had it about a year now and if anything ever happens to it, I would get another without question.

i have a animal dyson and i love it love it love it!!! i wouldnt trade it for anything else. i have had expensive ones 2 grand ones and cheap dirt devils. this one is the best.

mrs. heidi thats as cheap as i have seen it. factory serviced is the same as refurbished. and u still get the warranty the same as if it was brand new.

I love my dyson, too. You don't need a handheld if you have a Dyson. You set the vaccuum on the floor at the bottom of the steps and turn the hose thing around and the hose stretches all the way up the stairs to clean them. It's great. I have back problems, too and it is not a prob at all. Love it love it.

Mine's not the Animal. Maybe I should have sprung for that model! lol I have the yellow one. :)
