Question about frozen hash browns
I usually keep a couple bags of frozen hash browns on hand for things like hash brown casserole, chicken pot pie, just plain hash browns, and sometimes I use them in stews etc. I got to wondering, has anyone ever boiled them and used them for mashed potatoes??? Wonder if you could.... LOL I know they are more expensive than buying and peeling potatoes and all of that, but they sure would be faster on nights your pressed for time or only need to make a little bit. Anyone ever do it??
I haven't...wouldn't they be too spicy for that? What do you do with them in chicken pot pie? I've not heard of that but I'm interested! I guess I would use the dried potato spuds that you just add water and milk to.
Are you talking about the diced potatoes (small cubes), or the finely shredded hash browns? I would almost think they would work. You should just try it once!
I am talking about the small cubed ones... they have no spices in them at all.
I just add them to chicken pot pie like I do peas, green beans etc. Don't you put potatoes in your pot pie??
I don't know exactly, but.... I made a hashbrown casserole with the shredded hash browns at Christmas and stirred them too much so that when they baked up it was a solid mush like mashed potatoes under the crust. I was embarrassed but was told by several people that they were so good and asked what I did to make them so fluffy. I just wanted to ROFL.
Sounds like they would work for mashed pots. I never thought about using them for a quick potpie.
