I turned in my resume in hopes that I get a call back, but its been a really long time since I've interviewed and I forget what all they ask. TIA

What was our reason for leaving your last job?
What did you like most about your last job?
What would you do in this situation...a co-worker is arguing with a customer...and other such things..

Interview Questions

By Mommmie on Friday, January 13, 2006 - 01:46 pm:

How old are you? (my personal favorite - NOT - yes I know it's illegal)
What are your strengths and weaknesses?
How do you handle stress?

By Conni on Friday, January 13, 2006 - 03:22 pm:

A few weeks ago my dh was asked in an interview (right off the bat when he walked in and sat down) Sum the numbers 1-10. Then the guy asked what is 2/3 of 3/4? lol I think they were just looking for a reaction more than anything tho. Of course, dh got the correct answers. ;) I would still be sitting there counting on my fingers and toes.

Good luck!!! You will do *great* !!

Sorry...mine were all teaching-related in interviews. I did have one once that was something like:
"Do you consider yourself as someone who has integrity? Give an example of why you have integrity." Yuck on that one.

My husband has always asked at interviews (and I think it's such a great question for the interviewee to ask "Why should I work for this company? Why do you like working here?" He always comes up with great things like that and you put someone else on the spot when they're leats expecting it!
Good luck!!

You've been out of the job market for a while. What have you done to keep your skills current?

Child care questions are discriminatory and hence illegal, but may well be asked. Be prepared for:

You've been a stay at home mother. How will you handle not being home for your children if your children are unhappy about it?

Do you have alternative childcare arrangements for when a child get sick?

How about these, to think about.

What skills and/or experience do you have that you think would be helpful to you in this job?

Have you had any experience with working with and/or supervising volunteers?

Were you a Girl Scout? Did you enjoy being a Girl Scout? What did you enjoy the most?

Is your daughter a Girl Scout? (If not,why not?) Does she enjoy her scouting experience? What does she like the most?

Do you have knowledge of or experience with Girl Scout troops in this area? Were your experiences good ones? What do you see as possible areas of improvement in any of the Girl Scout troops in your area? How would you try to make that happen?

Sometimes parents get unhappy with a particular troop leader and complain to the Council. How would you handle such a situation?

This job will require some evening meetings and some time away from home on weekends (I am fairly sure it will). Would this be difficult for you or make problems at home? How would you handle child care for your own children in such instances? (Again, illegal, but don't be surprised.)

Questions you might ask:
Does the Council have a program for training troop leaders and volunteers in recognizing possible signs of child abuse? How does the Council deal with allegations of possible child abuse, by a troop leader, a parent of a member of a troop?

Does the Council have connections with various agencies where troops can do volunteer service, or is each troop expected to make its own connections and arrangements?

Like Deana, most questions on my interviews have all been pretty specific to the job, like "How would you treat a child with X diagnosis? What is your experience with X?" However, a couple of general questions I have been ask relate to how flexible I would be in my work schedule and what are my personal and professional goals for the next 10 years.

I hate this question.

How do you handle stress?

I always said not well. Who handles stress well. But I don't think that is a good answer.

New York City is crazy though. High stress is supposed to be handled.

I just keep on doing my job, and let my boss know that because of the work load, or deadline, or last-minute nature of the task, I am feeling a bit stressed. (Fortunately, with my wonderful bosses that is not a problem - they agree that I'm stressed and sympathize. My former boss - ptoohie!)

Funny - I just printed out something I saw online yesterday - The 109 Typical Job Interview Questions. Check it out.

I think scouts are very touchy feeling. You will get lots of questions about your scouting experience. Were you the troop leader? Do you ever help with a service unit event, etc. That way they know you are willing to do all the appropriate paperwork, and are famililar with the girl scout ways.

By Karen~moderator on Saturday, January 14, 2006 - 10:22 am:

OOPS! Sorry Cori, I posted the same thing you did! LOL

By Ginny~moderator on Saturday, January 14, 2006 - 05:39 pm:

What work/volunteer situation have you been in that was the most difficult, in what way, and how did you handle it?

What gives/gave you the most enjoyment in a work/volunteer situation? Why?

What special qualities do you think you can bring to this job?

By Feona on Sunday, January 15, 2006 - 09:23 am:

Why did you leave your last job?

Is a hard question.

By Imamommyx4 on Sunday, January 15, 2006 - 04:03 pm:

One thing to remember is always finish with something positive.
For example--Have you had experience training people?
Ans-NO, but I'm a quick learner and pay close attention details.

Be honest. We can't have a great answer for every question, but never leave them with the negative point. Finish with a positive note.

Thanks everyone! I have been doing my research in hopes that I get the call..I appreciate all of the great questions!
