Anyone out there have any experience with this? My grandson has this problem and they have recently come to live with me. Dil hasn't gotten a pediatrician here yet. We read in Child Magazine to put Vasiline on the affected areas. Anyone have any tried and true remedies for this? He is 8 months old.

Oatmeal bath (from Aveeno) every other day, vaseline or aquaphor on the affected areas, hydrocortisone ointment (if you're comfortable with it), lotion over and over all day long, dye and perfume free detergents, Dove or Ivory bar soap is very gentle, and loose cotton clothing over the affected areas. I've been doing these things my whole life and all of my dks had trouble with it as infants. HTH

Two of my kids had it on their faces. The best thing that worked was a steriod cream. Used lightly. It was GONE in a matter of a couple of days.

Natalie had it worse as an infant. Our ped recommended that we used Eucerin on it daily, baths every other day, and also were prescribed Elidel. It worked wonders for her. Now she has a very minor break out on the back of one leg and one arm and with just a little Elidel it's gone.

Vaseline never did anything for Natalie's spots. We tried that before going to the doctor about it.

How old is the baby? I was using Eucerin on Kayla and my dr told me to switch to a lighter oil. I already use coconut oil for massage so I started putting that on her affected areas. It works for her. The dr said the Eucering is so thick that it will not penetrate the skin. I would imagine vaseline would do the same. However, this may be another case of what works for us may not work for you! Good luck!

Bryce is 8 months old, he has some pretty bad spots on the back of his legs and back. We tried the vaseline last night and it seemed to work, it made the areas softer. My kids didn't have any problems with this so I am totally unfamiliar with it. I thought about ivory soap to use on him. We are bathing him every other day. I just wanted to get a feel from you ladies on what you thought. I hope that we can get it cleared up. When we see a doctor I'll post what treatment the prescribe to us. Thanks again!!

My 9 yr old DS had it really bad when he was about 6 months old. I tried everything including prescritption ointments. One day my dad brought home a bottle of Curel Lotion and I put it on him about 7 or 8 times a day and in about 2 days I started seeing an improvement. In about 2 weeks he only had one small spot on his shoulder and he had it all over his chest, tummy, and one shoulder. I don't know if it would work that way for your dgs but it is worth a try. I hope that you find something that works because that stuff is so itchy and it burns and the skin gets tight. It so uncomfortable for the poor little ones because they don't understand.

My ds had it bad as a infant/toddler. He seemed to outgrow it some and now just has flare ups in winter. We use Eucerin lotion daily and cortizone cream on any bad spots. When he was a toddler, we had to use Elidel.(prescription) We also give baths every other day in the winter and I use dye free detergent.

The only thing that cleard my dd up was a prescription from the dermatologist. I believe it was Protopic.

Ds had eczema pretty bad as an infant and toddler. He was born with very dry skin. I don't remember everything we did, but I do remember very few baths, washing with Cetaphil cleanser, (NO SOAP) and the Cetaphil Creme was a good moisturizer. As far as the exzema, nothing really worked very well except the prescription stuff, (can't remember exactly what it was) and even that wasn't great. (Of course, this was more than 10 years ago, and I'm sure they have more effective meds now.) He finally outgrew the excema, but his skin is still EXTREMELY dry. So, I guess my advice is to see the ped., and until then cleanse with something mild, use a rich moisturizer, and put cortizone on the bad spots.

Moisturel lotion helped my ds, also the Dr prescribed a mild cortisone cream.
DS had it on his toes and inbetween them.
DS has pretty much outgrown it (hes 6) - every once in a while it bothers him but very rarely - whe it does I put lotion on it.
