Military question again...

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive January 2006: Military question again...

I'm trying to establish a budget for when Scott is stateside training at Ft. Benning and then Ft. Bragg. I wanted him to have his own checking account so I wouldn't have to rely on his communication skills...ha ha ha...
I was thinking that he can have $100 deposited to his own checking acct through his paycheck while he's stateside and then $50/month while overseas.

Do those amounts seem ok? Am I way off base? :)

I broke down last night really bad...I'm finally realizing he's leaving in 2 weeks. :(

It depends on his habits. When DH was stationed in Kuwait, he spent very little money, $50 to $100 a month was more than enough. Enough for toiletries, etc. I'm not sure what would be the right amount while he's stateside, I'll ask DH what he thinks when he gets home. Hang in there, Heidi... we're here for you!!

We didn't give dh any set amount when he was in Iraq. I mailed him just about everything he needed and on the slight chance that he did need money he just went to the cash cage and signed out some(they took it from his next check). When he was in Okinawa by himself, I would transfer money every pay day. Usually $150, more if he was going to have some down time. But he didn't have a meal card either. Will your dh have a meal card? We didn't do the allotment into his seperate account because they only recieve the allotments once a month. They take half the allotment out each pay day and pay on the 1st of the month. This didn't work for us. I also monitored is account to make sure he wasn't getting low and if he did I would make a transfer.

Hang in there! {{{hugs}}}

I have no idea if he'll have a meal card.
There is so much I have "no idea" about...ugh. :(

When dh went to Saudi back in '99 he took a book of checks with him and just emailed me when he was going to write one. I don't know if you'd want to entertain that option or not. It can be dangerous having two people write from one account. It worked for us, though.

Oh Heidi I honestly have no idea what you must be feeling but I just wanted to send you (((HUGS))) My heart is aching for you all.
Take care and we are here if you need us. :)

Thanks everyone. We are doing our wills, power of attorney, and living wills/etc tomorrow.
I'm going to ask some more military wives later on about the money.

Hang in there, I, too, have no idea what you or other military wives go through. But, just know that I think about you a lot & offer tons of {{{HUGS}}}
