We are looking for a good used car and wanted to know what you thought of Carfax, etc.
A car we had a few years ago had some damage because a kamikaze deer hit it, but it never showed up on the carfax reports when we printed them.
Anyone have *something* come up on one of these?
Is there one that is trustworthy? Who reports these things to them?

I found Carfax helpful. It may not have shown up because when you transferred the title to the salvage yard because the yard didn't set it up as a "salvage" or "totaled" transfer of the title. When my car was totaled I made sure the title said so when it went to salvage, and then I went to Carfax and reported the car as totaled.

When I used Carfax, I was considering buying a car on the lot at my mechanic's shop, because I trust my mechanic. But Carfax showed the title had been transferred just a few weeks earlier. I asked the shop owner, who said he allowed one of his workers to put the car there, and he believed the guy had bought the car at an auction. (He also said he wouldn't allow that in the future.)
