More Ipod issues

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive January 2006: More Ipod issues
By Karen~moderator on Saturday, December 31, 2005 - 03:03 pm:

Jen just called me EXTREMELY frustrated. We gave her an Ipod for Christmas. She cannot load ANY music into it. Her b/f's brother has one and he tried and couldn't get it to work either. She is so irritated and fed up - told me it's the most expensive solitaire game in the world.

She said the only thing it will apparently let her do is go to Itunes, which she refuses to do.

Anyone have any ideas????

Bummer! I know with our mp3 players, we have to change the format of the Itunes music we purchase to be able to load it onto our players. So, maybe she needs to change the format to whatever file it has to be to load onto her Ipod. I have no clue how or where to find the software though! DH is on a conference call. I'll ask him when he gets done. He does all the downloading in the house.

What's wrong with Itunes? I love it. You can listen to the music before you buy it. Tell her to try spending 99 cents on a song and see if it will load from there.

I think you need to use iTunes to do anything with an iPod. You can use itunes to rip the music off your cds and then load it onto the ipod. You need the itunes software to work with the ipod.

You can only BUY music from itunes for the ipod. You can't go to walmart or something like that, because it won't work.

Still on the phone...try googling wmp to mp3 or something like that. You just need to convert them, but I don't know how. Sorry. HTH:)

You put the songs from your CDs into itunes and then transfer to the ipod. You can save everything on itunes and then pick and choose which songs to carry on the ipod.

Itunes is like the software for the Ipod.

Let me clarify - I don't have an Ipod personally. What I said above was told to me by someone who does.

By Karen~moderator on Saturday, December 31, 2005 - 08:26 pm:

I should clarify - she wanted to put music in there that she already had, or go to WalMart, which I didn't know wouldn't work. She didn't want to spend money on the Itunes site.

She came by for a bit and said she had managed to get *a few* songs into it. We'll see, I guess.....

Thanks for the replies!

The itunes Store is just one small part of itunes and you don't have to go to the store part to manage your playlist on itunes (your songs you get from your CDs).

Mommmie, Jen and her friends have SO many CDs, she was just greatly opposed to pay to download music and that's what I meant by her not wanting to spend money @ Itunes.

Hopefully she will get it figured out. Even though she found a place online where I got *quite* a bargain on it, I don't want it to be used just to play solitaire! LOL

By Dawnk777 on Sunday, January 1, 2006 - 09:57 am:

She can use itunes to get the music from her cds to her ipod, without having to pay. It should work!

Karen, you have to tell her that she really has to use itunes. It is very easy, once you get going. It is a program designed for music loading onto the ipod. We do not purchase songs (often) or pay, we just use the program. The program takes existing CD songs and formats them correctly. We have had our ipods for about a year and have spent about 15 bucks at the store, via gift card. Another coolish feature at itunes is they do give away about one free song a week. My hubby always downloads it, but only a couple are songs we really have interest in..LOL

She didn't say, but I think she probably did use Itunes to get the music in there. She didn't want to spend money on the Itunes site to purchase music, when she's got so much.

By Vicki on Sunday, January 1, 2006 - 11:42 am:

You can download as many songs as you like from your cd collection and it doesn't cost a cent. I guess I don't understand, can she not figure out how to do that?? She shouldn't have to spend anything to get her existing songs on there, but does have to use itunes to do it. itunes is just a program, it doesn't cost anything unless you go into the music store and buy things. But if she has all those cd's, she can get them on her ipod for free.

By Breann on Sunday, January 1, 2006 - 12:29 pm:

Ditto Vicki. That is how we do all of ours. And, it's totally free. We put a LOT of our own sonds from cd on it.

By Breann on Sunday, January 1, 2006 - 12:29 pm:

That should say "songs"

By Karen~moderator on Sunday, January 1, 2006 - 05:17 pm:

I guess I'm not making sense. But Thanks!

By Crystal915 on Sunday, January 1, 2006 - 05:46 pm:

Karen, do they have user forums on iTunes? She could ask for some assistance there, if she's having trouble converting her cds. :)
