Small tasty appetizers and snacks that kids will like?
My kids, hubby, and I have our own little "party" on New Year's Eve, playing games, watching movies, etc. I'm going to the grocery store this evening, and was wondering if anyone had any simple, yummy snacks or appetizers we could make? We'll have nachos, but I'd like to have some little things we could just snack on through the evening and night.... Thanks guys for any ideas!
pigs in a blanket ...lil smokies in barbecue sauce... quesadillas ....take a green oinion and put some cream cheese on it and the take a slice of ham wrap it around it ...will try thiking up more
Is there a recipe where you wrap hotdogs or something, maybe the lil smokies, with a piece of bacon and put brown sugar over it? Something like that?
My kids (7 & 9) would like: - popcorn - fresh fruit and veggie tray - a tray with deli meats and cheese squares with toothpicks We keep it simple.
Jewlz my family loves the greeen onion wraps, we also do it with pickles or cucumbers. However we do it the hard way & try to spread the cream cheese on the thin deli meat...your way sounds much easier. Cheese & crackers, fondue, Sweddish meatballs...
My kids love lil smokies mixed with bbq sauce in the crock pot. Served straight from the pot with toothpicks. Yum!
My kids love chicken nachos. I just cook up some shredded chicken with picante sauce, put it on tostado shells with some cheese on top and put it in the oven until it melts---cut it like pizza.
homemade Chex mix
We did mini hamburgers, chix nachos, turkey and cheese tortilla roll- ups, and fruit skewers! Have fun!
Miniature pizzas (on English Muffins or whatever). I know you can buy frozen mini tacos, burritos and other Mexican type food.
Emily, my family makes those wraps with pickles, too! And we also do it the hard way, trying to spread the cream cheese on that thin as paper meat! I think it would be much easier to spread it on the pickle and then wrap it!
My kids always like the same things Trina mentioned. Another thing they have always LOVED is the 7 layer dip with Tostitos. And, still another is Pick-a-peppa sauce mixed with Philly cream cheese on crackers. Jen fell in love with that when she was around 2.
the cream cheese spread for green onions or pickles.. dont spread it and fight it! i take and cut out strips and press it on and then wrap them up with the ham or lunch meat. lol I win. hahahahaha
Karen...have to ask...what is pick-a-peppa sauce? Jewlz...what a terrific idea!!!
What is seven layer dip, Karen??
Jewlz you certainly do win! I can tell you that from now on I am doing it your way & I bet Adena is too. I am getting hungry reading about all these different snacks...

Pickapeppa Sauce is a sweet, faintly hot, slightly tart tamarind-based sauce, used at both table and to season food during cooking (which is virtually the only way I use it). It is basically used as a favor amper-upper, much like Worcestershire Sauce, to which it bears a close resemblance. I use it because, unlike Worcestershire, it is anchovy-free and thus vegetarian, and I like its taste better than the various vegetarian Worcestershires out there (though they're okay). Many mainstream markets carry it, and you'll find it near condiments and such --- mustard, Tabasco, etc. It's made in Jamaica, and has a charming buff-colored label, with a green and red parrot on it. You can read all about it, and order it, online at www.pickapeppa.com. If you are not motivated to order it, and can't find it, you can loosely (very loosely) approximate it with equal parts ketchup, brown sugar or honey, and tamari, with 1/4 part Tabasco or chile paste. You get the picture --- it's a seasoning sauce with a little kick. THE "BIG EASY" 1 5oz. Bottle Pickapeppa Sauce 1 8oz. Block Cream Cheese 1 Box Crackers or Wafers of Choice Place opened block of cream cheese on serving dish. Pour bottle of Pickapeppa Sauce over block of cream cheese. Spread on crackers. If you're looking for a dip instead of a spread, mix bottle of Pickapeppa Sauce and block of cream cheese in food processor, and use as a dip with cut veggies. Also good with non-fat cream cheese if you're watching you weight.
Thanks Jewlz, you covered it! That stuff is SOOOOOOOO good!
We make PB Bugs for the kids every once in a while. I mix a block of cream cheese with half a cup of peanut butter and "some" honey (just keep tasting! ). I put an ice cream scoop of that on a plate, stick apple slices around it standing upright and then pretzel sticks all over the top like quills. Add raisin or chocolate chip eyes and let them eat up.
We had deviled eggs and shrimp cocktail, along with chips and dip, celery and carrot sticks, pickles, and a meat and cheese platter. We all ate too much
