Does anyone take Micronor bcp?
If so, I was just wondering how it's been working for you. Thanks. Sorry for the anon...I just feel sensitive about this issue.
I took them after my 2nd was born. I didnt have any problems with them.
Thanks Jackie.
I took it after Randy was born for a few years. No problem here, either.
I took them after dd was born for 5 years now. I tried to go back to my old bcp but realized how nuts the old ones made me (DH had been trying to tell me for years!!!LOL) The only problem with the Micronor is that you are taking a single entity drug and every day. Your body doesn't know whether it is coming or going so it doesn't know when to cycle. My periods would be anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks and light to heavy. Both my OB and my family dr warned me about it. But I preferred that over the irritability from the old bcp's.
Thanks Cat & Imamommyx4.
I used it while breastfeeding my last 3 children - I wanted the convenience of the pill, but without drying up my milk! It worked wonderfully, and I switched to a reg. pill after weaning so I could have 4 periods per year
I breastfed so my ob put me on Micronor after I had my babies. I took it after I had my dd and had problems with a non-stop period so I quit taking it after four months. Then I took it again after having my ds. I had switched drs between dks and the new one told me that the problems I had before were hormone related and not from the pill, well he was wrong and the same thing happened. After three months of non-stop problems I gave up on it again. Once it was out of my system everything stopped and went back to normal.
I took it for a few months when breastfeeding my seond child. I quit taking it because my OB told me that it works only by thickening cervical mucus, so you might still release an egg. DH and I are VERY fertile, so as I started breastfeeding less (and therefore becoming more fertile), I switched to another method of bc.
So all of you took Micronor because you had just given birth and/or were breastfeeding? The last time I gave birth was over 10 years ago. I haven't been on the pill for quite a few years, but it was one with estrogen. The reason I was given the Micronor was because my blood pressure was borderline high when I went in yesterday to get a bcp rx...and because of that, they didn't want to give me an estrogen bcp because of the risk of blood clots. So is the Micronor not good?
If you have high blood pressure then I would err on the side of caution and not take any oral birth control. PLus I would guess that you are over 35 perhaps, if your youngest is 10. I think that's a great reason for DH to go and get a vasectomy.
Pamt, thanks for your concern, but a vasectomy just isn't an option at this time.
I agree with Pam on the Vasectomy! I took Micronor after both children and had no problems.
Well, if there are physical reasons to not take any bc medication, I remind you modern women that there is still the old-fashioned diaphragm (sp?) I used it for years before taking the bc pill, and if used properly and every time it is as effective (that is, 95-99%) as any medication. Yes, it is a bit messy, and yes, it means planning ahead, but it sure beats being pregnant when you don't want to be. I got two of my sons the first time I went without bc (one following a New Year's Eve party - be warned) and one while using bc, so I guess I was pretty fertile. And, if a vasectomy is not an option, have you thought about having your tubes tied? If you and dh feel you have all the children you want or at least all the children you intend to have, that is an option and shouldn't have "issues" for your dh that a vasectomy might have (men are so "funny" about that).
I appreciate all of your concerns everyone, but the situation is really complicated. I do plan on having one more child within 8 years, so I definitely don't want my tubes tied. Thanks everyone.
I've heard good things about the Nuva Ring. Talk with your OB/GYN.
The Nuvaring also has estrogen and will have similar effects if she has high blood pressure. If it were me, I would not take any hormonal birth control. Since you want to have more kids in the future, I think a diaphragm, condoms, or maybe an IUD are your best bets. I did have a college roommate who had a stroke in her late 20s because of bcp--that's why I would err on the side of extreme caution.
I was also going to suggest Nuva Ring. The hormone levels are really low. I've been using it since August and I love it! But, best to talk to your doctor and see what he/she feels is the safest option for you. As already mentioned, there are also IUDs that are non hormonal. Good luck! Ame
I'll also say go with non-hormonal BC. My mom was on a very low dose pill because of sensitivity to BCP, and ended up pregnant 3 times, and had 2 children. My 6 year old brother and 10 year old sister are walking proof of "surprises". Why risk the blood pressure problems for a pill that may not be very effective?
I had two friends get pg on micronor. With high BP, I too would switch to a non hormonal bc. I highly reccomend something called VCF (vaginal contraceptive film). I hated spermicides, too much goo, condoms just weren't not hubbys fav, and I had latex issues. I found these one day looking for anything else. They are like those listrine breath strips, but you insert, they are a spermicide, but don't get gooey. Anyway, just an option.
I just wanted to share that I have had high blood pressure from the age of 17 (not related to weight or anything else at that time) and have been on blood pressure medication ever since (let's see....almost 20 years now) and I've been able to take the pill with no problems. As long as your HBP is UNDER CONTROL, you can still take the pill. A low-dose aspirin regimen wouldn't hurt either to help prevent blood clots, but you can talk to your doctor about that. I am currently taking a pill called Kariva, which I take continuously for 3-4 months at a time (skipping the inactive pills) so I only have 4 periods per year We have four children, and are fairly sure we're done, but not sure enough to make a permanent decision. If we were to win the lottery, for instance....I'd have another baby (or two) in a hearbeat
Micronor is a good safe product. It is usually given to women who are post-partum and bf because it is safe for the baby. Most of the time dr will switch a woman back to a multi-ingredient product after they finish bf. My family dr said that it is only about 97% effective. My OB said it was higher than that. But like I said in my other post, when I went back to my other bcp, it made me nuts. So I asked to stay on the Micronor. The dr allowed it but with the warning that it was only 97% effective. And I was on it for almost 5 years after my last baby. But dh had the vas surgery, so no more bcp of any kind.
