Holiday with vet issues

Yesterday am our usual vet was closed so we had to take our shepard to the er vet. He has two horrible ear infections. He is very large, 120 lbs, doesn't ride in the van well, so I offered to go with dh to hold him in the back seat. We were there for 3 hours. The service was great and he is on the road to recovery.

Today, new puppy has bloody diarhea. He's not running a temp and is active. I took a stool sample and will be at our vet first thing in the am.

Why do these things happen on the weekend and a holiday weekend at that!? Usually it's the kids that are sick but I guess the dogs are filling in for them this year! LOL
