Microwaves
We had to buy a new microwave last year when Matthew was born because the sterlizer we bought did not fit in the old microwave. I hate the new one. The dishes get so hot and the food does not. After 2 minutes a dish is so hot you cannot touch it without getting burned, but the food is still cold. My old microwave was not like this. Is this how the new ones are or did I get a dud?
A lot of plates are not micro safe. I would guess your new mirco heats up hotter and it is testing the plates.
I just got a new over the range microwave in September, and I love it!! It doesn't heat the plates barely at all, but the food gets very hot very quickly. Sounds like a dud, do you have a warrenty? Maybe try and change the type of plate and see if that helps, but I know with mine, I use my regular eating plates and it's fine.
Do you have different plates? My microwave started to heat up my plates a lot more when I bought new ones. When you add water to your food, it heats up faster, so maybe that could help? Maybe it's a dud though, if you haven't changed your dinnerware.
We got a new one last year as well. I don't like it. Our last one was so much better. It was a kenmore. We went with a maytag this time. If you run it longer than 5 minutes or so, it overheats and completely shuts down. Once it cools off it comes back on. I do NOT like it!
I replaced my microwave in 1999. It works great! I have a Sharp. It replaced a 15-yo Litton!
The old one was a Kenmore as well! I loved it, it was just too small. When I'm finished with all this baby business, I'm going to pull the old one out of storage. We haven't changed plates so it must be the microwave DH bought it at Costco, it's probably just cheap. Didn't want to spend a lot of money at the time. You know when you have an new baby all the stuff you have to get, the last thing I thought I would need was a new microwave. Oh well, you get what you pay for. Thanks.
I've had two Sharps, one given to me by my parents around 1977. That one lasted well into the late 1990s. When I moved my parents out here Mom brought two microwaves with her so I gave it to my son, and it only died, as I said around 99. Both of mom's microwaves died so I bought a new Sharp around 1995 (after checking Consumer Reports), and it is still going strong. One thing I really like about Sharp microwaves is the models I've had have a revolving heavy glass turntable built in, so I don't have to "turn" whatever I am microwaving. I certainly don't have the problems Heaventree is describing. Given that you intend to go back to the old one as soon as you stop using this one for the baby, it makes sense to buy a cheap one (except when it gives you problems, as this one does). But given how long the Sharp microwaves have lasted me, I will certainly spend the money to buy a near top of the line Sharp next time I need a microwave. If you think of the "per year" price, it is worth it.
I have preset buttons on my microwave. I love rice, baked potato, popcorn, frozen veggie and frozen main dish! The compu-defrost works well, too!
I have a sharp as well. I bought it at Best Buy in either 99 or 00. I love my microwave and I am dreading the day that it breakes. It seems its hard to find large microwaves these days. Hopefully it will last a very long time.
