I am having about 5 couples over on Sunday for a Holiday get together. I just want to serve some appetizers. Does anyone have a favorite appetizer that you could share with me?

So far i plan to have :

Spinach Artichoke dip with crackers and veggies
Shrimp
Pinwheels

one friend is bringing another appetizer
and another friend is bringing a dessert

we will be drinking wine and probably some beer (for the guys)

Skewered Pesto rubbed Beef with Blue Cheese Fondue
Mini Crab Cakes with Cilantro Lime Aioli
Skewered Coconut Chicken with Papaya Curry Dipping Sauce
Asian Tuna Tortilla Rolls with Soy Wasabi Cream
If any of these interest you- let me know and I will post the recipe!
Sounds like fun!

I make this appetizer every holiday.

Smokie Links - usually 3 or so packs
Bacon
Brown Sugar

Wrap a small strip of bacon around the smokie link. Secure with a toothpick. Put in a cake pan or similar and sprinkle a very generous amount of brown sugar over them. I also add a little bit of water to the pan to make a little bit of a sauce in the bottom of the dish. Bake at 250 to 275 for an hour or until bacaon is done.

If you are feeling daring, you can spinkle a little cajun pepper on them, too.

A fruit and cheese plate would go well with the wine. I also love baked brie. Sounds like fun! Those are the best kind of parties.

Fresh veggies and dip are always a good choice. I find they are always a hit for parties. And so simple. I usually do cauliflower, broccoli, celery, baby carrots and green peppers.

Heather, the Coconut Chicken with Papaya curry dipping sauce sounds interesting. Could you post that recipe?

I will be having a veggie tray.

i have been toying with the idea of having a cheese fondue for an appetizer OR a chocolate fondue for a dessert. I love them both but don't really feel like making both of them.

I don't want to go overboard and make too much food either. That just ends up being a waste.

Thanks for the ideas! Keep 'em coming :)!

My fav appetizer is this cheese dip. You buy slices of provolone cheese. Mix one brick of cream cheese with one tub of feta cheese. Layer like this (i use a margarine container), one slice provolone, a layer of cheese mixture, a tablespoon of basil pesto. Then go back to the provolone, then cheese mix, then 1 TBS of sundried tomato. I do three layers of this (so you have two basil, one tomatoe) then I top the last piece of provolone with more basil (this kind of looks like lasagne). Serve with those ritz chips. This freezes really well, the cheese mix is enough for two.

My second favorite appetizer is buy those small hard breadsticks, wrap with a piece of bacon. Bake, when crisp sprinkle with parmesan cheese. YUMMY!

Should read Guava dipping sauce:

2- 21/2 pounds boneless skinless breast tenders- I usually buy the bag of raw frozen tenders- easier!
1/4 cup dijon mustard
1 cup coconut milk
1/2 cup canned guava juice
1 cup guava jam
2 TBL curry powder
1/4 tsp cayenne
1-2 cups shredded coconut
wooden skewers

Combine all ingredients excpet jam and chicken in a saucepot over med heat. cook stirring occasionally while marinade reduces- about 10-15 min
pull off and let cool down
Cut chicken into pieces (about 1 inch)
place in a baking dish or deep oven pan and cover with marinade- reserving some for dipping sauce and a small amount for dipping to roll in coconut.Allow to marinate for 2 hours or overnight.

Bake at 350 until done through.
when cooked- skewer and dip in sace lightly then roll in coconut. Serve!

I love these! They are always a big hit and get requested frequently from my customers!
Have fun!

Depending on the time of day or evening, apps sometimes are not enough.
I would add a tortilla soup with fixings or a chowder w/ baguette slices to feed those that need something more filling. You could keep it in a crock or if you have a warming server, all the better. Or maybe a deli platter with condiments and small rolls.
