Aarone Thompson!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive November 2005: Aarone Thompson!
By Emily7 on Saturday, November 26, 2005 - 01:20 pm:

I always hate to hear stories about missing children, but there is a little girl that is missing in Colorado that just has me so sad. This little girl Aarone Thompson was reported missing almost 2 weeks ago. Her dad said she ran away because of an argument about a cookie. A little over a week ago the police stopped looking for the little girl & started looking for her body instead. The police think she may have been killed as long ago as 18 months, the dad & his girlfriend is labeled as "persons of interest". The entire family, including grandparents say the little girl just went missing, whereas people in the neighborhood didn't even know she existed. She should have been in school this year, but was never enrolled. There were something like 6 other kids in the home, they were taken away & none of them are talking. Her mom says she hasn't seen Aarone or her brother in over 4 years because no one would tell her where the family was. The mom lives in a homeless shelter in MI.
I just feel like there is this lost spirit out there, reguardless of if she is alive or dead she needs to be found & helped. Her birthday is in 4 days.

That is so sad. I hope that they do find this little girl.

I'm confused - she was reported missing two weeks ago, but the police think she may have been killed 18 MONTHS ago?

That is correct Karen. Here is an article...

Cops search deeper into yard
Shovels, dog used as Aurora police look for missing girl. Children who were removed from the home say the 6-year-old hadn't been there for "a while," police say.

Aurora - Investigators on Monday carried shovels into the backyard of the home where 6-year-old Aarone Thompson was reported missing a week ago, and blue tarps shielded the east side of the home, where sounds of digging could be heard.

It was the same spot where next-door neighbor Harlan Schmidt said he saw a hole in the ground a year to three years ago.

Digging occurs only after investigators sense something is there, said Jim Reed, a geologist with Fort Collins-based NecroSearch International, which is conducting the search. Shovels are used to scrape away topsoil, then other instruments are used to dig without disturbing possible evidence, he said.

By 6 p.m., authorities brought a dog to the home, but about 30 minutes later, investigators packed up and left the scene.

Police believe Aaroné, who was reported missing by her father Nov. 14, was killed as long as 18 months ago. The focus of their investigation has been at the house, at 16551 E. Kepner Place.

No arrests have been made, but police have described the girl's father, Aaron Thompson, and his live-in girlfriend, Shelley Lowe, as people "of interest." Neither one has consented to a police interview since authorities announced they believed the story about her running away was untrue.

"We are ... looking for any piece of evidence that will shed light on the disappearance of Aarone Thompson," said Aurora interim Police Chief Terry Jones. "We're continuing to methodically ... do everything we should. There are a lot of opinions out there about what happened. Something is amiss. And this case, a report of a missing child, appears to be a complete and utter fabrication."

Seven children removed from the house Thursday and placed in foster care said Aaroné hasn't been in the home for "a while," according to police.

Aarone's family, including her father and grandparents, appeared Monday morning before an Arapahoe County judge to learn the reasons behind the removal of the children, who range from 8 to 15 years old.

Preliminary protective hearings commonly occur within 72 hours of a child's removal from custody. Monday's hearing was closed to the public. The children include Thompson's son, Aaron Thompson Jr., and five of Lowe's children and her 15-year-old brother.

They remain in foster care and appear at ease, Jones said.

Lynette Thompson, the biological mother of Aarone and Aaron Jr., wants custody of the boy and her daughter, if she is found alive. Lynette Thompson lives in a Detroit homeless shelter but said she is scheduled to move into low-income housing in December with her 15-year- old daughter. She doesn't want Aaron Jr. returning to his father.

"I want to make it clear that I'm OK and I can take care of my son," she said Monday.

Aaron Thompson had said Aarone was turned away from Tollgate Elementary School in August, when her father couldn't produce her shot records.

"That's unlikely," said Georgia Duran, spokeswoman for Aurora Public Schools. "If you bring in a kid to register, we will work with the family to get them in school. There is a shot waiver form that the family can fill out. We don't have a register of her."

Nevertheless, Thompson maintains the girl was at the house until the afternoon of Nov. 14, when she went out the front door after being ordered to her room for misbehavior.

Aaron Thompson's parents said they talked with Aaroné on the phone this summer and were about to send her Christmas presents.

The grandparents told The Denver Post they are frustrated that the police stopped looking for Aaroné and have instead focused on trying to find enough information to make an arrest.

The Rev. Acen Phillips of Denver's Mount Gilead Baptist Church said he offered Thompson and Lowe a place to live and will help them shop for clothes and supplies. He said it was "un-American" for police to toss the couple out of their home and remove their children on a tip.

"This makes them look guilty," he said. "It doesn't appear they have any evidence. We're going to try to reactivate the search for Aarone."
