I've decided that I love caffeine....
and I will not give it up this pregnancy. Yesterday was the first day I had coke (or caffeine of any sort) since finding out that i'm pregnant and I felt normal! I didn't feel fatigue and tired like I was feeling. I had a normal amount of energy and even stayed up past 8 o'clock. Today I had one cup of coke this morning and i'm cleaning my house from top to bottom. I havn't had energy for that in about 3 weeks. So, while i'm normally a paranoid freak about caffeine while pregnant, i'm going to let myself have 2 cups a day. Having energy and a clean house make me feel sooooooo much better.
Go for it! That's definitely not excessive and it makes you feel better.
If a cup or two of coffee or Coke makes you feel better, makes you a better wife and mother, and lets you enjoy your day, I think that is more than acceptable. You certainly aren't putting your baby at risk for a cup of Coke.
Suggestion - get your caffeine from coffee, not coke. I have had bladder valve problems for years (and take medication for it, which works nicely), until recently, when my gastroenterologist took me off carbonated beverages. I don't drink coffe, but have been drinking Diet Coke for most of my adult life. Since I've been off it, I have had far fewer bladder issues, and have pretty much gone off the medication. Is there a connection? I don't know, can't swear to it, but the connection seems fairly strong to me, since that is the only real change I've made in my diet.
I wish I could stand the smell of coffee right now, lol. That's nice to know though Ginny since i'm prone to bladder problems.
I drank soda throughout both pregnancies. Milk and water makes me sick, and it was worse while pregnant, and I have acid reflux problems, so I have to be careful with too much juice. They didn't have the wonderful flavored carbonated waters that I love to drink then, so I was pretty much limited to soda.
Ginny, when my son started having urinary issues they removed the 4 "c's" from his diet. Caffiene, carbonation, citrus and chocolate. It helped him. I think there is a known link.
Melissa, I will ditto Ginny RE: carbonated bevs/bladder problems. I rarely drink them anymore - and I used to be a coke-aholic, and I find that if I drink even ONE for say, four days in a row, I feel irritated, like I'm gettng a UTI. Anyway, that's just something to keep in mind. Certainly what you are drinking is not excessive. And, as much as I ADORE coffee, I couldn't stand the smell of it either, when I was pregnant.
I didn't give up caffeine this time around, Melissa. I naturally couldn't stand the smell or taste of coffee the whole 1st trimester, but now I enjoy my cup in the morning. I never finish a whole cup (Drives my DH crazy! LOL), so I figure I'm not having too much. Then, I bought some caffeine free diet coke and I'll have some of that. I drank iced tea all Summer when we would go out to eat. It sounds like have it all under control. Enjoy! Especially, if it's making you feel better! Oh, when I was pregnant with DD, the only thing that made me feel better was fountain Coke. My Dr. told me to try it. It seems that they now say to give up more and more. I would love a tuna sandwich, but my Dr. says no. Go figure. I love my sparkling water!I don't think I could give it up. I usually never, ever get UTI's. I love my Diet Coke too.
