I need ideas, please. I'm not sure when we will actually get to go but I would love to see it in December. For all of you that live there, or have gone there, any ideas or fun places to go would be great. I am thinking this will be a sort of Romantic weekend for me and hubby. :)Thanks in Advance :)

I have no ideas for you as I have never been, but it is my dream to go someday during the holidays. I would love to see the tree and Rockafeller center and all of that.... maybe when dd is older....

I would want to see the big Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center, see the Rockettes, and go to a Broadway play.

Can I stowaway with you? The closest I have been to NYC is a road sign that said it was 460 miles away, on our way to Niagara Falls!

Get half price show tickets at Time's Square. Go tour Rockefeller Center and the Radio City Music Hall. Take a carriage ride in Central Park. Go up to the top of the Empire State Bldg. Take the boat to Ellis Island and Lady Liberty. Go to Greenwich Village. Go to China Town, Ground Zero, Saint Patrick's Cathedral. Eat fantastic food. See fantastic shows and have a ball.

You know, after living in the city for so many years, reading your posts makes me ralize how much I took it for granted. I hope you have a great time! I'll see if I can come up with some off the beaten path things and places for you.

Ice skate in Central Park. Get your portrait drawn by an artist there. Eat at the Tavern on the Green. Have a GREAT Italian dinner at Caesar's 58 E 34th St. Make arrangements to attend a TV Show, ie: The Late Show, Good Morning America. Wander through fantastic art galleries. Go see The United Nations. Shop FAO Schwartz. Visit The Cloisters, Carnegie Hall, The Met., The Flatiron Building and Gramercy Park.

You guys are awesome. I really want to go. I am fearful of flying but I can get over that! LOL

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I really appreciate it. :)

The first thing you need to do is fly to Ga, and pick me up!! From there I am sure we will have tons of fun. I have always wanted to go to NY especially during the holidays. lol I hope you do get to go!!

I'm going to keep all these suggestions as well, DH is from Long Island and I've never been to NY, and we are hoping to go in 2006, spend a few days with his aunt/uncle and stay a few days in the city. And one of the things on my list of *must dos* is to see a show.

By Pamt on Friday, November 18, 2005 - 10:12 am:

Stori, you MUST go! DH and I just got back and had a fabulous time. We were only there for a weekend, so we couldn't do much, but now we have a better idea of the "lay of the land" and what we will want to do next time. We have also decided that we simply must take our kids next time too.

I'm a HUGE David Letterman fan, so we went to the Ed Sullivan theater, then ate lunch at Hello Deli where I got my picture made with Rupert Jee. We were there on the weekend, so no show was taping, but you can get free tickets for Mon-Thurs on cbs.com and "The Late Show" link. Saturday Night Live, The Daily Show, Hope and Faith, and The Tony Danza show also tape in NY. We went to the top of the Empire State Building at night so we could smooch like "An Affair to Remember" and "Sleepless in Seattle"--good thing my DH humors me! :) We did LOTS of walking and just stopped off as we were interested. We didn't have time to make it to any museums or even Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island, which had been a priority for us. We did go see Spamalot on Broadway which was absolutely fabulous!!!! We went to the NY Improv which was horrible! We visited Ground Zero on our last day before leaving.

Key thing in planning a trip...Know the proximity of your hotel to the airport and how to get back and forth (shuttle, subway, train, bus, etc.) We ended up having to take a $100 taxi ride from our hotel to the airport and that stunk!

December would be an awesome time to go. I will turn 40 in 2007 and a bunch of girl friends from high school and I have a girls-only trip planned to NY in December to celebrate all of our 40th birthdays. Can't wait!!

A hundred dollars does seem like alot of money. Probably should get the taxi id number in case you a have to report them. (you would never get through on the report line anyway) I can't remember what it should cost.. The hundred dollars sounds like it is from Newark airport to me.

It is really difficult to travel by subway to New York city with luggage. I think it is public bus to public subways or something from jfk....
Laguardia would be public bus to public subway. (Big stairs at to get up to subway platform) Tiring without luggage. Probably have to switch trains in Manhatten (more up and down stairs and asking directions)

I think Newark airport has a grey hound 42nd street terminal or something like that. Stairs to subway. I thin there is some confusion with E train and A train over there. I remember the e train doesn't stop there though you may wait on the platform for the E train even though it will never come. Maybe they changed the e train though. Then you need to take cab or subway to hotel destination. Practically everyone has to take a cab or they break their back with the stairs and luggage.

I guess their must be shuttles to somewhere in the city but you would still have to grab a cab or take subway (Up and down stairs with luggage) in the city. (Sometimes grabbing a cab in the city is impossible. Rush hour or rain or snow)

Don't forget navigating the hordes of people getting out for lunch or rush hour on the street while carrying your luggage or getting on and off buses and subways. (shudder)

Or waiting for one of the three bus/subways you would need to take (only one of which you had to wait a 1/2 an hour for... ) Make sure you are going in the right direction too... (don't laugh I used to get confused with uptown and downtown when I was like 13 years old.) I hardly even had to wait more than a hour for a bus or subway. Maybe one in 55 trips.
