Dessert Recipe Help
Please. Somehow my DH and I got in this uppity dinner club around in our neighborhood. Okay, you get the picture. So, say it was your turn to take a dessert to this 10 people who think they are a little better than everyone else- what would you take? If anyone could help me out I would appreciate it. I searched the recipe board and did see a cake recipe that Eve posted that looked good. Thanks!!!!
Tiramisu!...I'm not at home, so I don't have the recipe handy...but it's good for an uppity crowd, lol!
Tiramisu - absolutely. But my former chef son (now a lab animal specialist - go figure) says it can be hard to make a good one. But he was doing restaurant cooking. Maybe Wendy has an easy to make recipe for home baking. I'd love to see it myself, Wendy.
Easy and impressive...a chocolate sack. Here's the recipe. I'd make two to serve 10. It takes about 15 minutes to make, looks like it was created by a pastry chef, and is VERY rich and delicious. It will look even more impressive if you garnish it with some chocolate curls and raspberries.
The recipe looks great. The site, however, gives you all kinds of cookies (the computer kind) and something called "underadvertising", so check your cookies and run a spyware program after you leave the internet today.
A trifle! You can use any cake recipe and make it look fabulous! There is one my Mom made recently that was to die for! She even bought a store made chocolate cake, but it was so yummy. Let me see if I can find the recipe--it was Paula Deen.
,FOOD_9936_26025,00.html,Paula Deen's Chocolate Toffee Trifle Recipe Just buy a good liqueur. I think my Mom mixed Khalua and then went for the good stuff--Frangelico! She literally bought a chocolate cake from the grocery. It looked beautiful and everyone loved it! You can't go wrong with chocolate and liqueur.
Oh boy thank you all so much! I knew you all would have good ideas. Cybermommy if you could post the Tiramisu sometime I would appreciate it. Thanks again so much.
Tiramisu: For 10 people: 5 eggs separated. mascarpone cheese (not ricotta, is not sweet enough) a big bag of savoiardi bicuits freshly made espresso coffee (about a pint and a half) some kind of liquor if you like, like marsala (the typical one for tiramisu) or amaretto, but i guess with baileys would be lovely. You just need a little bit, you need to pour it into the cooled coffee -beat the whites until they become stiff and fluffy (when you turn the bowl upside down they shouldn't fall) -mix the yolks with plenty of sugar and beat it until the colour changes to white -then mix the two (whites and yolks) together plus the mascarpone until it is smooth and creamy -dip your biscuits one by one into the coffee (let it cool down first) and place them along a rectangular recipient, -do a layer of buiscuits and then top it with your mascarpone cream (the mix you did before) "crema di mascarpone" -repeat the procedure again, dip your biscuits in the coffee, put them in the recipient and top them with your cream. -once the dish is full, top it generously with the remaining of your cream and sprinkle a little bit of chocolate powder -put it in the fridge to set I am sorry if i can not give you exact measures as everytime i've done it i just do it like that: "add a little bit here and there". It's not too difficult, the hard bit i think is the mixing of the whites (i didn't have an electric mixer or a long time so i did it by hand, so when i bought one, i couldn'do it properly because was used to it by hand). Good luck, and enjoy
Here is my Tiramisu recipe. Always gets rave reviews Ingredients EGG YOLKS, 8 SUGAR, 1 cup MILK, 1/4 cup WHIPPING CREAM, 2 cups NEUFACHATEL CHEESE, 8 oz. RICOTTA CHEESE, 8 oz. HAZELNUT-BLEND COFFEE, 2 cups brewed and cooled (you can use another flavored coffee if you prefer) AMARETTO, 1/4 cup (I have also used Godiva Choc. liqueur, and Kahlua in addition...just make sure the total amount is the same)(PS-you can get the little tiny "sample" bottles from the liquor store if you don't keep these on hand) LADYFINGERS, 50 (you may want to use a few more depending on the size of the serving dish you are preparing it in) BITTERSWEET CHOCOLATE, 2-1/2 oz. grated COCOA POWDER for sifting Directions: Whisk egg yolks, half the sugar, and the milk in a 2-quart saucepan until smooth and blended. Heat to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Refrigerate and cool. Whip the whipping cream to very stiff peaks. Set aside in the refrigerator. Mix the cheeses together until well blended. Add remaining ½ cup of sugar. Stir in the yolk mixture. Then fold in the whipping cream. Combine the coffee and Amaretto in a large mixing bowl. Quickly dip each ladyfinger in the coffee mixture and place on the bottom of a 9x13 baking dish. Sprinkle with half the chocolate. Cover with half of the cheese mixture. Add another layer of dipped ladyfingers. Sprinkle with chocolate and finish with the cheese mixture. Sift cocoa powder over the top and garnish with coarsely grated chocolate. Refrigerate overnight for best flavor.
