Halloween Theme Dinner
I had to brag on myself for the dinner I pulled off last night. I surprised my DKs (DH was in on it) and made a great Halloween dinner. Our kids are 8 & 9...so anything this side of gross is up their alley. We started off with a Poop Dip (rotel dip with sausage), then had black jello, a giant snake (it was kinda like a giant calzone), ghoul ade (you can do great things with kool ade), and to top it off...eyeballs for dessert. The eyeballs were the hit of the dinner (white chocolate dipped donut holes with embelishments). We topped the evening off with the carving of the pumpkins. We had a great time...it was my first attempt at a Halloween theme dinner...it won't be the last, that's for sure.
How fun! I bet they loved it! Way to go!
That sounds like fun!!
That sounds like sooo much fun.
Sounds great! What exactly did you use to decorate the "eyeballs"?
The eyeballs were decorated with: white chocolate chips red gummy savers blue m&ms red gel food coloring/icing (for bloodshot effect) Perfect...if I can figure out how to post a pic of them tonight, I will.
That'd be great if you could! For some reason, I just can't get in my head how you'd do it.... I'm usually pretty creative, but I am just burned out after the week I've had. Very hectic at the school! I'd love to make these for my two kids Halloween "snack" on Monday. They'd all love them. They have a "snack" because they are only allowed three holiday parties a year: Christmas, Easter, and Valentine's Day. So this is a party, with treat bags and movie and snacks, but we can't call it that! Ugh!
Great idea! If you're kids are into gross they might like this: WARNING THIS IS REALLY GROSS CAT LITTER CAKE CAKE INGREDIENTS > > > > 1 box spice or German chocolate cake mix > > 1 box of white cake mix > > 1 package white sandwich cookies > > 1 large package vanilla instant pudding mix > > A few drops green food coloring > > 12 small Tootsie Rolls or equivalent > > > > SERVING "DISHES AND UTENSILS" > > > > 1 NEW cat-litter box > > 1 NEW cat-litter box liner > > 1 NEW pooper scooper > > > >Prepare and bake cake mixes, according to directions, in any size pan. >Prepare pudding and chill. Crumble cookies in small batches in blender or >food processor. Add a few drops of green food coloring to 1 cup of cookie >crumbs. Mix with a fork or shake in a jar. Set aside. When cakes are at >room temperature, crumble them into a large bowl. Toss with half of the >remaining cookie crumbs and enough pudding to make the mixture moist but >not soggy. Place liner in litter box and pour in mixture. > >Unwrap 3 Tootsie Rolls and heat in a microwave until soft and pliable. >Shape >the blunt ends into slightly curved points. Repeat with three more rolls. >Bury the rolls decoratively in the cake mixture. > >Sprinkle remaining white cookie crumbs over the mixture, then scatter green >crumbs lightly over top. > >Heat 5 more Tootsie Rolls until almost melted. Scrape them on top of the >cake and sprinkle with crumbs from the litter box. Heat the remaining >Tootsie Roll until pliable and hang it over the edge of the box. > >Place box on a sheet of newspaper and serve with scooper. Enjoy! > >Top of the morning to you, > >and the rest of the day as well
I've made the cat litter cake...it was a riot!! It was so delicious, but was so gross looking. My DH (who is fun-loving & enjoys the bizarre) put his foot down after that one & just couldn't stomach the idea again. This is one to try!
That is just great! Thanks for the idea! I will definitely be using that one! I love it! Okay, I've just gone "exclamation point" crazy! Ooops...there I go again! LOL! Sheesh.....
As soon as DH comes in, I'll have him help me post the pictures of the eyeballs for you
How cool! I LOVE that whole idea!
I posted the pictures of the eyeballs to the photo section. I didn't get the 3rd pic to post, but it was just all of them on their pan before we served them to the kids.
