X-Rated Charlie Brown Moment
I was looking forward to watching "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" tonight with 9 year old DS. When I was a kid, I watched it every year on CBS! As 7:00pm (CST) approached, DS and I plopped on the sofa and I turned on the TV. Imagine my shock and horror when the show began and instead of Charlie Brown, there was some sexy, scantily-clad woman rolling around provacatively in silky sheets in her lingerie!!!! Well, I couldn't jump up fast enough to turn the TV off!! I grabbed the TV Guide to figure out what went wrong, and discovered that Charlie Brown is no longer airing on CBS but rather ABC!!! Ooops!!! DS and I had caught the first minute of "NCIS", a crime drama-type show, I guess. I can't believe something like that was on during the "family hour" on network TV!!! Anyways, it was an interesting moment to say the least!!
LOL Oops!!!
I often wonder if family hour even exists anymore on network tv?!? We've had the same problem in our house.
Kind of an aside but, wouldnt it be great if the cable and satellite companies made it so you could block specific shows instead of channels. So that if say CSI came on it it would ask for a password but if it was the morning news it wouldnt? There are shows on almost every channel that I would like to block but other shows on the same channel that I watch regularly.
NCIS is on at 8:00 here, which is better than 7:00, but still early for that sexy stuff to be on. My kids go to bed at 8:00 usually, but last night we let them stay up to watch Charlie Brown.
Family Hour - what's that? I think it is a long lost ideal. And I miss it.
OOPS! I'm a big Peanuts fan and have most of the holiday specials on video. We watch them whenever we want. Missmudd, we have digital cable and do have the option of setting parental controls. Right now we have it set so that a password is required to view anything rated PG or above. It's great!
Ditto Ginny.
ditto Ginny - that's why we don't watch much tv.
I tried that but movies that used to be R like in 1970 and that are edited for tv so all the swearing and juicy bits are cut still require the password. And I find that some shows like south park inexplicably dont request the password and some shows that shouldnt be blocked are. I just wish I could pick and choose exactly what programs are ok and which are not.
We absolutely can't watch primetime TV unless my six year old son is not home. The filthy language and smut is on almost every show. Even the shows on Nick and Disney during primetime are for older kids (the story lines are about dating and so forth). We read or watch DVD's most nights but sometimes I'm just dying for a funny sit. com. so I'll send my dh with my ds to give him a bath! This only works sometimes but enough to get my fix!
How about when you spend the money to buy a DVD or video of one particular movie/show/episode, and you are bombarded with inappropriate previews that on DVD you sometimes can't even avoid because it won't allow you to go to the menu until you've viewed them! And even flying thru them on fast forward on VHS still shows enough of what is going on to be upsetting! Even if they are rated 'G' like the movie, they are often what I don't approve of, such as violent cartoons or Rugrats or something!
Absolutely, Kate. And I really resent that. I guess it's just like ads in magazines that I buy, but still, darn it, I paid for this video and I don't want your darned advertising. At least they don't do it on music CDs (so far)
