Mad at Amazon
They couldn't manage to ship us one little computer game. Emily wanted Let's Ride Champion's Collection, so we ordered it from Amazon on 9-26-05. They estimated about mid-October for delivery. The item page said about 1-2 weeks for shipping. (now it says just days, but not back when we ordered it). So, we keep waiting for it to ship and waiting for it to ship. I call Amazon and they say it will be shipping soon. Still nothing and on the order page, they say they are experiencing a delay and the ship/delivery dates are now the end of October. On October 12th, already 16 days after we originally ordered it, we get an email that the delay will be even longer. Estimating shipping to be end of October and arrival around November 9th. Well, good grief. What the heck is the problem. I try calling again, but the only number I can find to call ( and not on Amazon's site!), won't direct me to a human. Argh. So, the order gets cancelled and we ordered from KidsClick Software. It is a plain no-frills site, that had the software that Emily wanted. We ordered it mid-afternoon on 10-12-05, used Paypal to pay for it, and it was in Emily's hot little hands on 10-17-05! 5 freaking days! What was Amazon's problem? I didn't lose any money on the deal, just had aggravation and an impatient 13yo on my hands. Actually, she dealt with the delays fairly well! So, maybe Amazon is too big for their britches now!
Response from Amazon: Thank you for writing to us at Amazon.com. I've looked up your account and found that you cancelled this order. First, please allow me to extend my most sincere apologies for any frustration this matter has caused. We normally obtain this item from a supplier who can usually send it to us within the availability perio as listed on our web site from the time your order is placed; however, in this case, the supplier took longer than expected to respond to us, and we do apologize for that. Unfortunately, our reliance on suppliers and manufacturers for information about their stock means that, occasionally, our database will not reflect all changes. In addition to our large selection, one of the benefits we'd like to offer our customers is convenience, and we have not met that standard in this case. Please accept our sincere apologies. We appreciate your business, and would like to give you a $5.00 promotional certificate for use toward your next Amazon.com order. When you redeem your promotional certificate, please be sure to use the shopping cart rather than ordering via 1-Click. You will find all of the details below. Simply print this certificate or save the message on your hard drive for future reference.
I had some problems with Amazon recently as well, but have ordered since then and they seem to have been resolved. Amazon automatically cancelled any pending orders for our zip codes in the New Orleans area due to hurricane Katrina because there was no mail service. However, once we starting getting regular delivery, their site would not let me RE-order the items they had cancelled. I sent a snippy email to them, and suddenly, my orders were reinstated - one of which was a pre-order for Season 10 of Friends. I have ordered a couple of DVDs since then and they were delivered. I'm sorry you had a problem with them too. I suppose it's inevitable that a certain percentage off people will have problems with any given online company. Great though, that you found another place to get the game. Make sure you bookmark that site!
I ordered a game from Amazon the specifically said it was compatible with windows XP. I got it on Monday. I spent hours trying to get it to work and finally called tech support. The game does not work with Windows XP! It says it does on the website! I have to ship it back. Very annoying. On the same note, I order a lot from Amazon and this has been my 1st problem. I bought most of my Christmas gifts from them and they were cheaper on every item--plus free shipping! Sorry you had a problem! Over-all I think they are a great company.
Amazon haaaaaates me. For some reason I ALWAYS have delayed shipping and I always get their emails saying there's a delay and if I STILL want the item, I have to go to a certain part of the site and click YES. THAT is what bugs me! If I don't go there and click yes, THEY CANCEL IT!!! One Christmas I kept getting the delay notice on one specific item. I don't know WHY they needed to inform me five times that there was a delay, but they did, and EACH time I had to go to Amazon and click YES in my account that I still wanted the item. Well, I FORGOT the last time and they did indeed cancel the item!! WHICH ruined my free shipping for it. It was a $24.99 book and shipping is free for $25 and above. This book had been part of a much larger order, hence the shipping would have been free. By cancelling it and me having to place a new order for it, my shipping was no longer free. I complained bitterly and was given a $15.00 'gift certificate' for Amazon. I waited until I had other stuff to order and then ordered the $24.99 book again to get my free shipping. That time I got it. Amazon doesn't ALWAYS screw up my stuff, but a lot of time they do!!
This was really the first screw-up with many orders since 1998! So, I guess it's not that bad. Emily is a happy camper, now that she has her game, though.
