Anyone Ever Dealt With a Ganglion Cyst on the Wrist? Also, Wrist Splints/Guards

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive October 2005: Anyone Ever Dealt With a Ganglion Cyst on the Wrist? Also, Wrist Splints/Guards

I have had one on and off for years now. Lately it has been acting up and causing pain. Usually it goes away after a few weeks and doesn't recur for a few months. It's been such a constant companion for months now that I want to get a wrist guard or splint. Have any of you used one for this purpose, and did it help? Is there a difference between splints and guards? I want to keep the wrist immobile but still be able to use my fingers. Are these terribly expensive?

Thanks!

Ouch, sounds painful, what is it?

I'm wearing a Titan Thumb. It is supposed to not move anything but my fingers. Doesn't work, no matter how tight I make it.:(

However, I'm not supposed to use my left hand unless absolutely necessary.

My sister had one removed about 20 years ago. It was causing her pain. She only has a tiny scar now.

Dh has one on his wrist as well...actually just had it diagnosed. It only bothers him sometimes though and isn't planning to do anything about it. I had never heard of them until his came about. Sorry I can't be more help!

My sister (25) had one removed just last year. She had had it for about 2 years and wore a brace at night to sleep. Slowly though it stopped helping and the cyst got larger. She has just a small scar and didn't have any problems at all with the surgery.
