Any child take Drama Lessons?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive October 2005: Any child take Drama Lessons?

I was thinking of putting John is drama lessons. He is five and has social delay.

Sounds like it would be so good for him... You know play acting and pretending and talking

Trying to figure out if it is a good idea...

Feona, my son who seems to be very similar to your son is in drama class. It is a PERFECT fit! They work on eye contact, distance you stand from others, hwo to exagerate moves when you are far away. It is really pretty amazing what they do for him. He is something called "Onstage kids". I assume it is a local thing, but I think there is a website to look at that can give you info on what they do. Good luck.

So I took him to a free trial class at drama kids in the neighborhood.

After five minutes the teacher came out and said he was distracting the other children. He wouldn't leave the class so we let him do the rest of the class.

He improved his behavior and he can go back again next week.

Like I said I thought the class was going to be way above his head. (for 5-8 year olds ) Doing speech exercises. (hard exercises) and role playing and story creation. Way over his head.

But it is exactly what he needs to learn to do. So we will go back...

Feona, is this Drama Kids International? We just started that on Saturday. What did you think?

By Feona on Monday, October 3, 2005 - 07:36 pm:

Yes, it is drama kids international.

It looked good. They didn't let me stay in the room. I just peeked in the window. But I was tired so I didn't peek that much.

Diction lesson - like a speech lesson. They stood and spoke sort of tougue tisters or something.

Pretend to be a spider... Didn't see what they did...

Make a alittle story about something and tell it to the class. Didn't hear what john said.

Not sure if they did anything else. I was tired and sat like a lump outside the class.

My DD is nine so she's in the older class. How many weeks did you sign up for? We signed up for the whole year, to get the discount. I sure hope she likes it since it's non-refundable!!! Now, this isn't the other class you posted about, is it? The class where he won't be returning?

No this is different... The other class really was for special ed kids. Sounds similiar though. Social skills and emotions.
