Jury Duty Scam
I checked it with Snopes, and it is true: http://www.snopes.com/crime/fraud/juryduty.asp You get a call saying you didn't report for jury duty and are subject to some kind of penalty. You say you never got the notice. The nice person at the other end of the call ask for address and other information to verify if you are the person who missed jury duty - and tries to get enough personal information to steal your identity. Moral of the story: Never, never, never give personal or identifying information to someone who calls you. Look up the phone number in the book, get it from information or Google, and call the agency/entity back. Don't - PLEASE DON'T - use the phone number the caller tries to give you when you say you will have to call him/her back. A legitimate caller will almost never ask for identifying information on the phone unless this person is known to you. Finally, if you think the caller is legitimate and s/he wants to verify information - don't give the information. Ask the caller to read the identifying information to you so that you can verify it by yes or no.
That is a good one Ginny. I would fall for that one.
