People Are FREAKIN out!!!!!!!
Geesh, the storm isn't even headed our way and my friend just called me and told me to go get gas because there was going to be a shortage (her mom owns a station) she said the shortage will be because everyone is freaking out and buying it like crazy. The lines are like they were after the hurricane. It's CRAZY!! I know people are scared but come on!! Sorry, I just had to vent..
I guess people are probably thinking "Better Safe then Sorry" The storms are no where around us but when anyone even mentions there might be a shortage people are lining up. Vent away
DH filled up my gas tank, yesterday already, not because of a potential shortage, but because the price is only about 2.69! LOL!
My DH's cousin lives in Houston, and my MIL sent both of us emails to pray for her. I'm stressed at the idea of this hurricane, because we have a bunch of family in TX. As far as gas, we're down to 2.34/gal here, but I don't expect it to stay that low. Who would have thought we would be excited at gas over $2.00?!
Crystal, you are doing good at 2.34. This week I was celebrating when we hit 2.65. I agree, this is crazy.
I bet gas prices will go up again soon...probably this weekend.
Kasey, they are freaking out here too. UGH!!!!!!!
We are still at $2.97, I just filled because I needed gas, not because of the storm but I know that if i was more than half empty I would be at the station because we get gouged everytime anything minor happens, I cant imagine how high we will go if this shuts down the refinaries again.
Actually, CNN said earlier that 73% of production for gas is offline b/c of the storms (Katrina & now Rita) After Katrina 56% was offline. At least that's what the report said. Our gas is at about $2.50/gal.
Oh great DH just called and was talking about if this messes with gas prices again, then we are going to just be sitting here. They are down to 2.53 now and we are happy?! I cannot believe these storms this year!! This is the first year I have even concerned myself with them (not to sound selfish) I am so up here I don't really worry about them, but I am really starting to listen and watch the news. I guess it has alot to do with all my online friends. I have never really had a reason to worry about Texas or Louisiana or any other state until now. I can understand why people would be freaking out though...really.
I just paid $2.45/gal when I got gas for the lawnmower - though a fat lot of good that's doing me, it won't run. LOL
News articles are predicting that if the hurricane stays on its current path that gas could go up to $4 & $5 per gallon. So, after reading the article it's a little easier to understand. I'm thrilled that I bought a car this past week that gets 30+ mpg. It helps on the wallet.
what did you get Kate
'05 Nissan Altima 2.5 - love it....I'm 6'4", DH is 6'7" & we fit great...our kids are tall & love the comfort of the back seat.
I'm driving dh's car that gets 30+ mpg instead of my van. dh is taking his bicycle or motorcycle.
Wow Kate, have you ever modeled or played basketball??? You definitely could!!!! GAS LINES: People are terrified here and they are reacting. When coming home today, the gas station on the corner of my street and the river road had lines down the river road. I have NEVER seen that before. I drove to the post office and the 2 gas stations on the boulevard where it is had lines down the boulevard. When I was at Sams, there were lines down the side streets. Sams put out a new shipment of those 5 gallon gas cans when I had just walked in and I grabbed 3 of them. My friend had just checked out and was putting her stuff in her car and I called her and had her come back in to get some. People were all over those things like ants on sugar. There were none left by the time I checked out. Problem is, *if* I have to leave, I have no way to secure them on top of the car. LOL At least I HAVE them. The schools are closed here, and they have issued a voluntary evacuation for parts of my Parish - that is the low lying, most southern part of the Parish though, that is pretty much surround by water.
I went to a very small town (population closer to a thousand I would guess) We are attached to a bit bigger town. Well guess what even HERE they are out of gas at some stations, there were two fights at the grocery store over bread, GEESH. This is the kind of place people leave their keys in their car.
Just a caution regarding gas cans... Gasoline is extremely dangerous when it's anywhere but in your car's gas tank. 5 gallons of gas is equivalent to 50 sticks of dynamite! ...and actually far easier to make explode! For example: Leaving a container of gasoline with a loose cap in a car trunk in the sun can turn your car into a bomb that will go off from the smallest spark of static electricity (the same kind that causes static cling in laundry): http://www.chevron.ca/ProductsServices/Retail/HandlingGasoline.htm
