How pathetic am I???
I know this is stupid but can anyone tell me how to make rice crispy squares. Also, can you freeze them?
Here's one recipe: RICE KRISPY SQUARES Ingredients: 1/4 cup butter 5 cups Rice Krispies 16oz. Package marshmallows Directions: 1. Melt butter. 2. Add marshmallows to butter. Cook over low heat until melted. Keep stirring. 3. Remove from heat and add Rice Krispies. Stir. 4. Press into buttered 9"x9" pan. 5. Put in fridge for at least 1 hour and cut when ready to eat. Here's a web page with LOTS of recipes, including chocolate, mint chocolate, butterscotch flavors, and I don't know how many others. http://www.cdkitchen.com/recipes/cat/729/0.shtml My guess is that no, you can't freeze them, if marshmallows is an ingredient in all of them. I think you'd have to see what the ingredients are in the others, but overall I'd guess not.
Ginny, thanks for the recipe and the link. I tried one of the recipes from the link that called for corn syrup, sugar, PB and chocolate chips (as well as rice crispies, of course). Do you think I would be able to freeze that one since it doesn't have marshmallows?
I freeze the ones that do have marshmallows in them, and they're fine. I've wrapped them individually to freeze, to make an easy lunchbox treat.
That's exactly what I was hoping to do Marcia. Thanks
I don't know, Paula, chocolate doesn't freeze that well. I mean, solid chocolate doesn't freeze that well. Tell you what, my former chef son should be home in a few hours, and I'll ask him. Glad the link was useful - I thought having a choice of flavoring would be nice, and heaven knows that site offers lots of choices.
Yes, please do ask him. I used semi-sweet chocolate chips.
I make a batch of chocolate chip cookies and freeze some individually all the time for dd's lunch. She has never complained!
Scott says that chocolate changes its flavor somewhat after freezing, but many people don't notice. Other than that, he sees no reason why you can't freeze them. How about freezing a few and trying them in a week to see if the taste changes noticeably? That is, if you have any left to freeze.
Thanks everyone! LOL Ginny I put some in the fridge to keep them for lunches this week and some in the freezer for next week's lunches. I'll let you know how they turn out.
I'm laughing with you because I had to look it up on a website not too long ago. I don't know why, but for awhile, RK didn't have the recipe on the box like it had for a gazillion years, so I never had it written down! I made some last week, though, and the recipe is back on the box. As it should be. Life is good!
