Finding family and friends from New Orleans
Okay, I am hoping that someone (maybe karen or pam) can point me in the right direction. My tennis team has adopted a LA family that was displaced from the hurricane. Today while deiivering a mattress I got to know these people better. This couple (an indian couple) and their children were able to evactuate. They realized two of their neighbors had no options, so they said, well come on lets go. So this family of four is also living with two older (67-70) white ladies. They are such a sight together actually. One family is very religious, the wife in "cover" etc. The older ladies are typically southern ladies. Anyway, they parents got to go into their home and recover some things last week, although nothing was very salvagable due to the mold growth, but he also went into the other ladies homes and got things for them, and saw the fish and brought them..LOL. Anyway, one of the ladies said she just wished she could find her best friend. They do not have a phone or computer. So I asked her to write down info and I would dig. So isn't there a site with a list of people looking for people? If not I can go to the astrodome and read the BB, but thought I would check online first. It is just AMAZING how bad off these people are. Literally everything they could salvage they did, they have so little. We took them a mattress because one of the ladies is on chemo and she is in her 70's and it was harder for her to sleep on the floor. The whole family has been sleeping on the floor. I can't imagine how bad it must be to really lose it all.
Try this? List of resources
I found these on the WWL TV website: To locate missing children, family members: Red Cross Family Links Registry, 1-877-LOVED-1S (1-877-568-3317) National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, 1-800-THE-LOST (1-800-843-5678) To inquire about those in the area who did not evacuate: American Red Cross, (866) 438-4636 The WWL TV website has messageboards for each parish also, scroll down nearer the bottom of the main page, anyone can register to post. I haven't read the messageboard since we got home, but when we were evacuated, people were asking about people on the boards.
bumping for Kaye...........
Bumping up for Kaye... Wishing you great luck...
Another one you can check out, I *think* this is the station that runs the ticker with messages across the bottom of the screen: WDSU TV
So far no luck...i haven't been to the last link. I think I am going to have to go to the dome and check out their message board. I haven't been, but apparently they have a LARGE bb that has notecards with info. It is very sad
