Firefly phones
I am thinking about getting my sixth grader one of these for Christmas. You can program in only five numbers; for emergency use only. She went to her first dance last night, 6-8pm. I would love for her to have something in case she needed to reach me. Does anyone have one of these or have heard any pros/cons about them?
Seems pretty pricey to me, for what you get. I'd get a Tracfone or just add a phone to a family plan. Sounds much more economical to me.
We have Cingular and just added our 14 year old to our plan and its an additional $50. a month. I'll read the posts on the Tracphone thread. I don't want to get it so she can actually talk on it, just for emergencies.
*gulp* $50 a month??? I wouldn't pay that much for myself, let alone my kiddo. I certainly understand why you're looking. Ouch!
We have a $79.99 family plan, three phones, unlimited minutes....but it seems the bill comes in at around $110. a month. 14 dd has an extra $10 a month to spend using the web, etc to download stuff. SIL paid for this since she gave her the phone for her birthday. I hate phone bills. With the tax and added crap, it costs money even if you don't use it. I don't want my 12 year old to actually have a cell phone to chat on, since this was a huge step for our 14 dd for her bday. But I do want her to have something for emergencies. I'm going to look into our plan to see if they have something similar to the Firefly idea.
We pay about $67 for 2 lines, with 3000 night/weekend minutes and 700 anytime minutes. Of the $67, $5 of that is the 3000 N/WE minutes. We get unlimited incoming minutes, too, which is nice. Sarah and I share a phone. Gary pretty much only uses his. We have US Cellular. Except for our trip to Canada this month, our bill is always $67. With a few roaming calls and one call in Canada, the bill we are waiting for, will be more, though. We never come close to using up all our minutes.
We have TMobile and added our teenager for $10 a month.
