Here we go again----Hurricanes
We are under hurricane watch. The schools have been closed Thursday-Friday. Hubby is going to try to buy a generator after work. We have been looking at them for weeks now but do not know enough about them to choose. I guess now we are going to regret waiting. I have been looking online for any info on selecting one and really have not found any advice. I am one of those people that anything I buy that cost over $500 needs to be documented as worth the money. I want to see consumer reports or something recommending which one I should buy. Too late now Hubby will likely buy whatever is left, as he does not want to be caught without power. I went to the bank and pulled cash. I also filled the rental car with gas. My car will not be fixed until the first week in September (the part is back-ordered) so I am stuck with the rental for a while. The bank and gas station were both packed already. Luckily I have plenty food & water so no need to rush to the grocery store. Yvonne PS----Jessica is in tears. She thinks her birthday party (September 3) will be ruined. I told her that it should be fine next week. Hurricane Francis ruined her birthday last year so she is not convinced.
Thinking of you Yvonne! I hope it passes quickly and then I guess we'll see where it heads from there! They always put us in the middle of that darn cone! I'm sorry for your dd....I hope her bday is great!
Good luck! I saw that earlier today, that Katrina. I hope the storm doesn't wreck your daughter's birthday. My kids would be having a fit, too.
FIL is alone in Delray Beach now. I know this isn't a strong storm, but we worry about him because of his medical problems, and even last year, he refused to go to a shelter. Be safe!!!!!! Like Kim, we are waiting to see what happens when it gets into the Gulf.
Hubby is home. He had to go in today to help bring stuff in at work. He was able to come home around noon. He bought a generator yesterday after work. I ran out this morning and bought a small room air conditioner. The stores were packed at 8:00 AM this morning. I had to go to 3 Home Depots before locating a air conditioner. We are getting a lot of rain and squalls. The animals are all acting very antsy. Our roamer Paws (cat) is home and hiding under our bed. We are as prepared as we can be, so now I guess we wait....
Yvonne, where in FL are you??
North Lauderdale---Broward County
Ah!! For some reason I thought you were on the other coast. LOL I know where you are now. We were in that general area 6 different times from Feb. through April this year! There's a possibility we might be there again in the fall, going to visit my FIL in Delray. We fly into Ft. Lauderdale, usually.
How is everyone this morning? It looks rough on the news?
We are OK. We lost some of the kids toys...kids trampoline ruined. We have a ton of debris in both front/back of house. The pool is full of tree limbs, etc. Beyond clean-up, we are doing great. We are relieved that we did not lose power and have no structeral damage.
I'm so glad you made it through safely.
Yes, once again we are in the middle of the cone. *sigh*
I'm sorry, Yvonne, I forgot to tell you that I am glad you are ok!!!! And I erally am!
Keep us posted on how you are doing Kim!
Now New Orleans is included in the cone. The locals are freaking - it will not surprise me one bit if we are put under an evacuation order this weekend. And I just got my new floor this week. Now may I have some cheese with my wHine?
Yvonne, glad you are all safe. It's crazy here already. The gas lines are unbelievable. I'm dreading having to go to Wal-Mart tomorrow for a birthday gift! UUghh!
DH is in Ft. Walton on business, he was telling me earlier about the gas lines.. he actually was going to wait until tomorrow to fill up to head home! I convinced him to get gas tonight.
Hurricane Ivan was devasting to this area. We just got our repairs finished, through the scare of Dennis. I was up north but dh was here. Dennis was a breeze; so to speak. We don't know what to do with this new one. Over-prepare; under-prepare......We are waiting until tomorrow am to see a more direct track. Karen, if your dh gets caught up in the storm in his travels he is more than welcome to come to our home, in P'Cola, to wait it out.
Looks like the crazy storm still hasn't turned North just yet. I feel for all of you along the coast. At least if you know where it is heading, you can prepare!!!
Annie, we are in the same situation here - now New Orleans is in the middle of the cone, which, as we all know, could mean a lot, could mean nothing, but we are SO NOT prepared. DH is trying to find a room anywhere north of here and will be heading home shortly, the local officials will make a determination for evacuation today.
Good luck to everyone in it's path!
Good luck to everyone!
Thinking of all of you in the storms path. Stay Safe.
Karen, just saw the news. How are you doing?
