Fried food smells

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive August 2005: Fried food smells

I remember that in the last few months someone posted a remedy for the smell that stays when you fry foods like fish but I can't remember what the remedy was. Can anyone help? The smell drives me me crazy for days afterward and we are going to fry fish tonight.

I think it had something to do with laying out a bowl of ammonia.

Bump. I would like to know too. I wonder if it works on bacon smells.

By Amecmom on Friday, August 19, 2005 - 08:30 am:

Put a bowl of white vinegar on the stove while you are frying.

Thank you.

Got to try that.

Thanks! I'll try the vinegar next time. We kept both kitchen doors to other rooms closed and fried as few pieces of fish as possible to reduce the smell. But alas, the next day when we came back in from outside we could smell a light odor. Well, at least the fish tasted great!

That's what I was thinking about, Ame. I knew it was something like that! LOL

Glad to hear the fish was great.! :)

What does BUMP mean?

By Dawnk777 on Sunday, August 21, 2005 - 12:27 am:

After 24 hours, the replies start dropping off. Eventually the whole thread disappears from the "Last Day's Topics" It's still there, if you go to the General Discussion page, though. If you "bump" it, it bumps it back to the top again and it will show up if you click on Last Day near the top of the page.

Also, clean your stove with a good grease cutting cleaner -like 409 - right after you cook. The oil that spatters smells forever! Use a spatter guard if you can.
