Anyone have their gallbladder out and still suffer???
I don't post much but noticed that another poster was having her gallbladder out on here recently. I had mine out in april, it's been almost four months and I still have problems. Don't want to make the other person anxious, but was just wondering.... I have had a hida scan which confirmed that my gallbladder was only functioning at 4%, so they took it. About a month or so later I started getting the same type pain and even more frequent! Then I had a ultra sound, a cat scan of the abdomen, a edg test, and most recently a mri. With the mri they told me that I had pancreas divisum, which means that my pancreas never fused together, I guess that they are supposed to fuse together when still in uttero (sp). Now on friday I go in for a ercp. I just want it fixed sometimes the pain is so unbearable and I can't help but cry out, that is how much it hurts. My family just stares at me, they don't know what I am going through... Just wondering if anyone had their gallbladder out and still had problems...
When I had my gallbladder taken out, my surgeon told me that there was a very small chance that it would not take care of the problem. This is because with a small percentage of cases, the problem lies with the flap or the opening that leads out of the gallbladder, and this is left intact. My surgeon said that if it was a problem with that, then there is a different surgery they have to do for that. So yes, you can still have gallbladder problems after having your gallbladder taken out if the problem is with that other little thingy! I sure hope that you get things taken care of! I still have pain that seems like "phantom" gall bladder pain, but I think it is from my endometriosis.
As long as I remember what my gallbladder did for me, I guess I can't complain about not having one. If I eat fatty foods, I know I'll get diarrhea. I know better, and if I suffer it's my own fault.
I didn't post for the same reason... I didn't want to scare Angela! But, since you asked... I had my gallbladder out in last September and everything went great! Then, in January, I started to have pain again! I can remember being in excrutiating pain on Super Bowl Sunday! it just got continually worse. I lived with it for a couple of weeks (constant), not being able to hold food down, and then couldn't hold water down. When my husband finally connvinced me to go to the hospital, my billiruben (sp?) count was in the 600s (normal is under 100) and I was grossly dehydrated. After all the tests, they figured a gallstone had "escaped" the gallbladder during the surgery, but never presented a problem until then, when it created a blockage in one of the bile ducts!!!! Horrible. I spent four days in the hospital and had to go thru some procedure where they removed it! Everything has been great since then, and they did warn me about such things when the operation is done laproscopically! So... yes, anything is possible! Don't suffer, make sure you follow thru! I know how terrible you feel! {{{{HUGS}}}}}
