Used cat litter

I am sure that someone has thought of a great way to get rid of this stuff, but how do you dispose of your daily cat litter waste?? When I clean out litter boxes, I put it into brown lunch bags and then into a grocery store bag and tie it shut. I then throw it into a garbage bag that I leave in the garage. Problem is that it is so hot and humid right now, that my garage can get pretty stinky from it!! I don't want to throw it into the garbage can with the lid on it or I would think the whole garbage can would get stinky and it would about knock you out when you took off the lid to add a bag to it. Today was trash day and all my garbage is gone and I would like to come up with a new system that might be a little better smelling. LOL So what do you all do?

We scoop daily and put the used litter into a plastic trash bag lined rubbish barrel. It has a tight cover and keeps the odor to a minimum. I must add that the litter boxes and said barrel are in the basement, where we don't spend a lot of time. LOL! Once a week (trash day) we tie up the bag and toss it in with the regular trash. This way it doesn't smell up our garage. Works for us! smileycat

I use two plastic grocery bags (doubled up) scoop the poop, tie it shut, then toss it in the large trash can on the side of the house.

We always keep the lid on the trash closed so the smell is never an issue. Sure it smells when I take the lid off to put trash in, but dosen't everyones trash smell? That's why it's called trash afterall. :)LOL

LOL Andi! When we had a cat, we did the same thing - OR scooped the poop into the toilet. The old litter went into doubled plastic bags, and out into the trash.

OH - And I just have to mention this for anyone who doesn't live in an area where seafood is common:

There is NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING worse than the smell of old shrimp heads, or crawfish tails, or crab carcasses that have been sitting in a trash can in 90 degree heat for a couple of days! Believe me when I say it, you can smell it for an entire block, no kidding. Makes old kitty litter smell like a walk in the woods! LOL

I used to double bag the cat litter so it didn't break. It still smelled... Alot of people have this problem. So I guess the garbage men are used to it.

I just take the litter box out to the city-provided mini dumpster in our driveway and stand there and scoop it out right into the trashcan. It's out by the alley, so you can't smell it despite the heat and I don't worry about people going through my trash bec it's super disgusting.

I used to use litter box liners and then scoop the daily poop into a grocery bag and toss it in the trash can, but the cats attack grocery bags and you use them at your own risk.

I save old zip loc bags. I rinse them and use them for the scoopings. Then zip and no smell.

LOL Heidi - but it's TRUE!!!! I've had cats all my life, and the smell of rotting seafood makes kitty litter almost PLEASANT! And in Sou. Louisiana, we are treated to this OFTEN!
