Slip covers

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive July 2005: Slip covers

Does anyone use slip covers for their sofas? I was thinking that it would be a low cost way to breathe new life into our current living room set.

Do they actually stay on especially if you have little kids/pets? Are they easy to wash?

The only slip covers I have found that stay on are the zippered kind.

We have had two sets that I was not impressed with. They slid off easily, nearly everytime we sat down and nothing we tried held them in place. I haven't seen the slippered type but the only one's I think really stay in place are the ones that are specifically made for the individual couch. Maybe someone has had better luck with certain types or brands.

I have some and they are OK. I mostly use them when I know we will be having company in the house. You do have to re-tuck them a few times a day. I bought mine from overstock.com

I just bought Stay Fit slipcovers for our leather couches, they are only a few years old, but the leather is scuffed and worn from all the abuse. I'm not impressed with them, they are an ok fix until the kids are older, but so far they move a lot. I haven't bought PVC pipes to insert between the back and the seat, but I've seen them do that on home improvement shows. I'm also going to get the no slip stuff you put under rugs, since Sure Fit recommends that for leather to keep them in place.

I bought some from Sure Fit as well, not leather but cloth. It took me FOREVER to get them on right, then they never stayed in place. Sent them back after 1 week. I've tried others, too, from Target that are not Sure Fit brand and I just don't have any luck with them.

My sis has her couch covered and said the same...she has to re-tuck them 4-5 times a day. If you're willing go for it, but I'm not into that much maintenance on my couch! :)

Finding anyone who makes custom zippered slipcovers is very hard. If you find someone, you'll pay a lot. I'm not thrilled with Sure Fit, but I can't afford the custom covers. At least they protect my good sofa when we are watching TV.
I made my own for a chair. It wasn't that hard.

It sounds like they aren't worth the hassel! Trading Spaces always makes them look so nice but of course you don't see them after people have sat on them! I am glad that I asked. Thanks everyone
