Best price for family portraits????
I need to make an appt for our family photo. I usually get them done at Walmart. My friend said she gets better deals at JC Penny's. I figure since this will be the entire family we will want several poses.....one of family, a couple w/ both kids, and solo of each child. So I know we will be spending some good money on this OUCH! So where do you find the best deals and how do you make all the specials and coupons work out the best? TIA!
Sears usually has pretty good prices and you can become a member and avoid the sitting fee each time.
I've always been to Sears. About $6 a sheet here. Great props, backgrounds, and variety. I don't think you need coupons there anymore.
when nick was small it was k=mart or wal=mart then we had alex and my sister in law took her girls to sears we started going there too. They have great pics for the price.I didn't like there poses though because it was pretty much the same thing except in some pics me and danny changed places lol = ) ...
I've never done multiple people in a pose at Sears...I can see how it would be kind of hum-drum. A local professional studio would be more versatile there, if you can afford it.
Do you have a Picture People near you? They are a little pricey, but well worth the money. Here is a link that tells about them. Rylee had pictures done there, and they totally captured her personality. The Picture People
Rayanne - I've never been to one! We actually have one in Indianapolis, about an hour from here. I'll have to remember them!!
I have had pictures done at walmart, sears and jcpenny. Of the three I think that jcpenny was best because they were good quality, captured DD well and allowed for you to pick any pose for a coupon package. With sears I had to use the first accepted pose for my package so even if one was better I was stuck. We did our family christmas picture at jcpenny and was very pleased. We bought the club card to because it was cheaper to do that then to pay the sitting fee for each person. The picture people are really great but I think they are expensive.

I think how it works is there is a special offer for one of the poses. But you want multipe poses it is always expensive.
http://target.com/target_group/stores_services/portrait_studio.jhtml I guess that is just one pose also...
A portrait sheet is: 1-8x10 or 2-5x7s or 4-3 1/2x5s or 8 wallets or 16 Portrait Petites.

I think if you really want to save the most money. I would get the family picture done one day with a coupon at a place with no sitting fees.... You can get multipes poses and just pay for the one you like. Then take the kids to another place with a coupon to another portrait place with no sitting fees. But that is too much work.....
We have always done sears. In general if you join their club which is about 20 bucks you can find coupons for about 4-6 dollars a sheet, any pose. So if you want 4 8 x10's it will cost you about 20 dollars, plus the membership. Their quality is pretty good. I have had pics done at pennys and walmart and just don't love the poses as much. Dress in similar colors, choose the blue or gray back ground and you won't be unhappy with the group photo. As for individuals of the kiddos, they have a paint backdrop that is adorable for little boys. They do have a lot to choose from. But keep in mind in 10 years what you want is to see their faces, not just a bunch of cute props!
Our Smile Savers Membership at Sears was $30, but it is good for 2 years. You can choose any pose for about $6 a sheet. If you go with their ultra-cheap coupon (similar to what Walmart does) you have to only choose one pose and you get a bunch of that pose for $9.99. Otherwise you can get all the poses you want. My friends do theirs at Penney's all the time and I personally think their better than Sears. Our local Penney's doesn't have a portrait studio, so I would have to drive an hour to go there unfortunately because I'd like to try them!
I really like the props for kids at Sears.
Thanks everyone! I love the idea of doing different days for family and just kids. What an idea! It would have never crossed my mind to do that! How silly and simple...much easier on DH too not having to wait for children to pose.
