GRACO STROLLER RECALL
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Graco Children's Products Inc. has agreed to recall more than 1.1 million strollers because of a risk of collapsing, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said on Thursday. The company is recalling approximately 1 million Duo Tandem and about 143,000 MetroLite strollers because they "fail to latch properly and unexpectedly collapse while in use," the CPSC said in a statement. Graco has received reports of 529 stroller collapses, causing 264 injuries to children, including bumps, bruises, cuts and a broken arm, according to the CPSC. The company is a unit of Newell Rubbermaid Inc. Duo Tandem strollers have two seats, and a blue, white or green frame. The MetroLite has a blue, gray or black frame, and a single cloth seat. The strollers, made in China, were sold between January 1994, through December 2002, at various discount, department and children's product stores nationwide for between $80 and $200. Included in the recall were certain Duo Tandem strollers with model numbers 7950, 7955, 7960, 7965, 7970, 7980 and 7990; and certain MetroLite strollers with model numbers 6610DW, 6110F3, 6111FKB, 6114HAV, 6114JAM, 6114NGS, 7410CON, 7413CML, and 7413MRN. The CPSC said consumers should stop using the strollers and contact Exton, Pennsylvania-based Graco to receive a free repair kit.
