Rescued a kitty!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive June 2005: Rescued a kitty!

DD and I rescued a kitten from the shelter. We originally went to pick out a cat and not to be biased against the cute kittens. Buutttttt.... when we went in, they had an 8 week old kitten that looked a lot like my cat we lost right after moving on base. I fell in love. DH should be jealous. My other cats name was Anabella so this new kitten will be named Belle in memory of her. She is a tabby/torti shell mixed shorthair. I dont have pictures because shes not home yet. They had to keep her to get her spayed so i'll bring her home tomorrow. I personally wanted to wait until she was 4 months old to spay her because shes so little but this was the only way I could adopt her. So beware of a big picture post tomorrow of the new love of my life! :) I'm like a child going to Disneyland... so impatient!

Hey what about your dog? Do you still have her?

By Colette on Wednesday, June 29, 2005 - 08:41 pm:

Sounds cute!! Both of my cats came from a shelter and I am considering becoming a kitten foster home (they put the feral kittens in your home and you get to play with them so they get used to people/kids/pets.

Not to be nosy, and you don't have to answer, but how much did you pay? The reason I ask is because the place I got my last cat it was $100 for kitten, but they came microchipped, all shots and fixed. However now they are charging $175, I just can't imagine someone paying that much money for a kitten.

Heaventree- We have both dogs. Luckily after nearly 9 months of regretting the decision to get another dog, she has calmed down a lot. She no longer tears up the house and doesnt pee everywhere. Of course, replacing the carpet had me irritated for a while but all is good now. Thank God!!! :)

Colette- We paid $58 for her. That includes the spay, vaccines, deworming and microchip. Cats over 6 months old are $29. I usually donate more when we buy animals since its going for such a good cause. I even picked up a volunteer application.

Thats a great deal! When Tom wandered in it cost us that to neuter him and get his first set of shots at the low cost neutermobile. Spaying is very expensive. I think it was over $100 when I had Mudd spayed.

I'm a foster for a cat group and we charge $125 for kittens and $80 for adult cats. The fee includes shots and being fixed. No microchip. Adoptions are way down right now. The group I foster with had to stop admitting kittens and cats into the program a few weeks ago. The leaders of the group talked to other rescue groups and they are reporting the same thing. I'm not sure what's up. I had a litter of 4 and 2 have been adopted. I'm thinking about keeping these last 2 as they are the best cats. We've had lots and lots of fosters and I have been keeping my eye out for the right personality. (I'm not into cats who hide under the couch.)
