A teenaged boy was attacked by a shark at Cape San Blas. This is where we normally vacation. Last time we were there in 2003, there was a local man fishing right near our condo, and he caught a baby hammerhead shark.

We have always felt so safe in the water there, and we've gone out 100-200 yards on rafts and floats. I don't think we'll be doing it again.

This is pretty creepy!

The kids and I went Saturday and SUnday afternoon. I didn't let them go out far, but we can't live in fear! I had to tell my Mom the same thing. The news heli was out recording the idiots like me who still went to the beach. LOL, I was watching the news to see if we were on it. It IS creepy Karen, but we live here and I think we should utilize the beach as much as possible!

I agree with you, Kim. By the way, we have to get together this summer. I can meet you at P'Beach if you like. We will be gone from 7/1 -7/17. Let's think about getting together. We live so close!!!!

Anyway, we do need to think smart. Going out too far, where the water gets dark, the sharks come to feed is a bad idea. Also in the boys case today, standing in chest deep water, FISHING, with shrimp bait, is a bad judgement call.

We never go out to the sand bar, never swim near people fishing and always swim in the lifeguard protected area. Rip currents have always been my biggest fear.

The boy hurt today had to have his leg amputated. Poor thing!
