Rusty iron skillet
I bought an iron skillet and to be honest, I have only used it once, long ago. I would like start cooking in it, however in it's lay state it grew a few rusty spots. Can these be recoated? TIA
I don't think you have to recoat it if it's cast iron. You just take some steel wool or S.O.S pads and clean away the rust. Wash it and dry it completely. Coat it with vegetable oil (use a paper towel) and put it in the oven for an hour at about 325. Once it cools, wipe it out. It should be fine. They call this seasoning the pan. When you start using your pan again, you must always make sure that it is completely dry before putting it away and it should not rust. The other thing to remember is not to clean it too throughly when using it or you will take away the seasoning or sealing you did previously and you'll have to repeat this again. The seasoning helps seal the pan so that it does not rust.

We use these and we dry them on the stove. I have electric and I just turn the eye on high for a few minutes. My mil greases them everyonce in awhile.
