out on a clothes line to dry? I do everyday and someone said yesterday its a thing of the past.
I would go nuts without my clothesline:)

By Tonya on Monday, June 13, 2005 - 10:09 am:

I don't but I would if I had a line. My grandma does and so does my mom.

By Maddysmommy on Monday, June 13, 2005 - 10:18 am:

i do, i was just out hanging wash out....lol, it is so hot out...

By Bea on Monday, June 13, 2005 - 10:21 am:

We have a pulley line from the widow's walk to the garage. Since my laundry area is on the second floor, I simply step out there and hang clothes. I don't hang everything but I do hang 100% cotton sheets and pillow cases, things that can't go in the dryer and all my undies.

We have and use both a dryer and a clothes line.

By Melanie on Monday, June 13, 2005 - 10:52 am:

We don't, but I do wish I had a place for a clothes line. I LOVE how laundry smells just off the line.

By Crystal915 on Monday, June 13, 2005 - 10:57 am:

I did last summer, but I hated how "crunchy" the clothes were. I'm going to so it again this summer for certain things, like jeans, if it ever stops raining!!

By Kernkate on Monday, June 13, 2005 - 11:08 am:

Crystal, add fabric softener to the rinse cycle and the clothes comes out great, no crunchies.

By Trina~moderator on Monday, June 13, 2005 - 11:36 am:

Not here. Too many pine trees = pine pitch all over clothes. Not to mention pollen is everywhere now and that would aggravate DH's and DD's allergies. Oh, and our neighborhood doesn't allow clotheslines that are visible from the street. Apparently they're considered an eye sore. Needless to say, we always use our clothes dryer.

My mom and mil both do. We don't have a clothes line, and I probably wouldn't anyway. Our back yard isn't very big and there wouldn't be any room for the kids to play if I hung anything out. They'd have my laundry all over the grass!

By Crystal915 on Monday, June 13, 2005 - 12:02 pm:

Kathy, I used softener, but I think part of the problem was the TX heat. Everything dried so fast, and was crispy, not so bad we couldn't stand it, just not as soft as the dryer. I'm hoping the KS weather (again, if we go more than 2 hours without rain!!!) will be easier.

I hang out a load or 2 every sunny day. I use downy that you put in one of those balls, and the clothes come out pretty soft. The towels are never as soft as they are in the dryer, but I just hang out the pool towels. The whites/towels go in the dryer.
I love the smell of clothes fresh off the line!
All of my neighbours hang theirs out, too. We all have the long lines like Bea has, and they go from the house to the back fence.

By Babysitbarb on Monday, June 13, 2005 - 03:35 pm:

I use to all the time but, the allergist has told me with my daughter and I haaving pollen allergies that I shouldn't because it brings that pollen in on the clothes.

By Pamt on Monday, June 13, 2005 - 03:38 pm:

Too much humidity and too many allergies to hang clothes, not to mention lots of little *surprise* thunderstorms during the spring and summer.

I like to hang sheets out, and my dh likes the "crunchy" feel of his jeans being line-dried (go figure). We also hang our wet swimsuits on it and blankets to air. Many of the houses in our small town have lines, and I get such a kick out of seeing the undies and socks on them! (I use the drier for those things)

By Missmudd on Monday, June 13, 2005 - 05:20 pm:

I hang my towels and sheets, I love them crunchy :)

By Reds9298 on Monday, June 13, 2005 - 08:42 pm:

We ALWAYS did growing up, but I just told my dh that a few days ago and he couldn't believe it! I loved hanging clothes out on the line, but I don't have one here. I probably wouldn't do it now just because I'm used to my dryer being so quick to load, but I love clothes out on the line!

By Dawnk777 on Monday, June 13, 2005 - 11:56 pm:

I do, once in a while. I love sheets that have been hung outside. It means I have to plan ahead and do laundry more in the morning, though, and I tend to do it more at night!

By Eve on Tuesday, June 14, 2005 - 09:16 am:

No, I don't. When DH and I first lived together, we had a small clothes line, but I would often times leave the clothes on too long in the sun and they would bleach out! Oops! I do hang a TON of things up on my clothes rack though.

Kathy-tell your friend you didn't realize that conserving energy was a thing of the past!:)

I love hanging linens on the line. Nothing better smelling except the smell of new crayons and freshly sharpened pencils in school box!

However, there are only certain times of the year I can do this. Winter is a NO WAY as we have the winter birds hanging around enjoying the FL temps. Spring I can't because we have nastly little worms/caterpillars that turn into horrid moths (1000's of them!), as well as pollen. Early summer has much rain unexpectedly. But Fall! Yes, I can hang my clothes and love it. I do hang things time to time simply because they cant go in the dryer, but many times I just hang them in the bathroom to protect them from the outdoor elements.

I love to hang out the laundry (hate bringing it back in) But in an effort to eliminate allergies for my boys, I'm machine drying everything right now. Being in AZ, that goes against my instincts, since most of the time it would dry faster outside!
