My son's summer holidays don't start until the 21st of July!!! i heard some of your children finish this Friday, is this true?

My nephews and niece in Mexico finish next week and so do my other nephews in Italy. So why do we finish so late? In England they do something called half term where every six weeks they have a break for a week (they still have two weeks for Easter and two week for Christmas). But i would rather have one very long holiday from June till September...Here we only get 6 weeks.

Well i don't know what is better. Would you rather have a break every six weeks and finish later in the summer or have nothing during the school year and have a long summer holiday? Just curious

My kids are in a year-round school so they won't be out until June 24th and will go back to school on July 6th. They will be off for about ten days and then go to school until September. They have the months of September, January, and May off. It took a little getting used to but now it really works for us. I really like the fact that there isn't a huge break for them to "lose" some of the skills they've learned. We can plan vacations for the off season easily. The only problem is that their time off doesn't coincide with family members on traditional school schedules.

OMG i didn't know there were such big differences. Tink, do your children get Christmas holidays? I suppose it has its advantages and disadvantages and i am glad that it works for you.

My boys are out on Friday. They go back, I think, August 29 (somewhere around that date anyway). I would prefer year round school. I like the idea that kids wouldn't lose so much ground in between sessions. Also, I think there are huge benefits to being off when others are at school...like vacationing in "hot spots" such as Disney.

Maria, they get the regualar times off like two weeks at Christmas, a week around Easter, the random Monday or Friday for national holidays. There are four different "tracks", each have different months off, which means that they can fit that many more kids at this school. We live in a great school district so alot of children come in from out of the district.

Regular schools here ended last week. They resume the first week of August.
We are schooling through most of the summer and will take time off in October and December. We always vacation in October and the prices are so much lower---not to mention we are not fighting huge crowds. We will take a few long weekends this summer. This weekend we are going to Universal Studios. I hope the rain keeps the park from being too crowded. Can you tell I am not a fan of crowds?

My kids are done on Friday, June 10th. They go back the day after Labor Day. It looks like we go back September 6th, so it looks like we have 88 days off from school.

I like having shorter vacations during the year, so that we can have a long summer break! That is the way life always was for me, and the way it's always been for my kids.

We're on an amended year round school. They get 2 weeks off in fall, 2 weeks at Christmas, and 2 weeks in the spring, and an 8 week summer. School got out June 2 and goes back Aug 1.

June 16th here too! Although, next week, they go M-W until 11:40.... That's hardly worth it! The last day they go until 9:45. Hardly worth getting up and getting dressed. But they hand out report cards that day so they have to go!

Tomorrow...and it is only a 1/2 day. Ds is so excited. They go back a week early this year, on Aug. 23rd. But, they get out June 2nd instead of the 9th. That is...if we don't have any snow days!
