Diorama help?
I hope I spelled this correctly. My 2nd grader has to turn in a dinosaur (ankylosaurus) diorama by next Monday. We have the box, plastic dinosaurs and tree, and plan on just coloring the background, maybe a volcano(?) but was wondering is there anything we can do to make it special? Teacher gave her about a month to do this and it seems like we s/b doing more.
Our Griffin (who just loves projects like this!) suggested adding mountains and a pond. For the last diorama he did he wanted a sandy bottom, so he came up with the idea of using sandpaper to cover the bottom. HTH.
Thats a great idea! Thanks.
What about using cotton balls for the sky/clouds?
Great - Keep the ideas coming! Is a regular shoe box ok or should we go bigger?
A shoe box is usually a safe size. One thing some of my dd's classmates did that I hadn't thought of doing with the box was putting the lid down and then gluing the side of the box inside the lid (making an L shape) so that there was more room to make it 3-D. We used lots of different textures for her diorama. Crumpled blue cellophane was the water (her project was an alligator's habitat), green styrofoam was the land, we glued sand for the bank of the swamp, twisted paper for the vines. Hope that helps and have fun with it!
Thats perfect as I have a shoe box with one side of the lid attached. Thank you so much. I'll keep you posted on my (I mean my dd's) grade!
Take a picture of her final project so we can all see
When my son had to do a dino one, he made a nest and eggs out of that foamy stuff (model magic?). What you probably need to know is at this age projects are mostly graded for neatness and completion, don't get too carried away
