Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive June 2005: Scary situation in my neighborhood!
My mom got a flyer yesterday saying that there was a attempted abduction right across the street from her house. (she live the next street over from me) There are a bunch of kids in that house. The 12 yr old daughter was baby-sitting. A man came to her door posing as a Illuminating company worker and that he had a call to come fix something. The little girl was very smart and immediately locked the door. The man grabbed the handle and tried to open the door. She called 911 and the guy ran behind the houses. She got a great description of him though. His hair and eye color and what he was wearing and how tall he was. It is a really good thing this girl knew what to do and thought to lock the door! Now i can't leave my kids in the yard just to go get a drink! So scary! We are spreading the word around our neighborhood so that everyone keeps an eye out and watches their kids more closely of course.

Wow, that is really frightening! I'm glad she knew what to do, and I hope they catch the guy.
Scary!!! I hope they get him. I used to never go inside, even for a second, when my kids are out. I've been going in for drinks and such- but no more. You never know.

Terrifying! When my kids were younger, they were taught never to OPEN the door to a stranger, no matter what. This could serve as a reminder to parents with younger kids. But thank goodness that girl did what she did. That could have been a parent's worst nightmare.
