Sonic mosquito repellers
Have any of you tried these? Apparently they use multi-frequencies to repel mosquitoes. We live in a somewhat wooded area and mosquitoes are a huge problem for us. I wanted to try something new, more effective, but wanted to see if others have used them first. If not, what do you use (that's not put on the skin) that you like? TIA!
I haven't used them, but Nate used the ones for inside your house that repel all bugs, rodents, etc. He had one plugged in every room of his house, and garage. He was pretty impressed by them, though he did say that the first 2 weeks EVERY bug around showed up as they were fleeing the walls, nooks, and crannies. As far as the outside ones, if you decide to go with it, make sure you still use DEET repellent, West Nile is too dangerous to take chances.
We put in on the deck near the pool. It works GREAT! We bought the largest one. It is supposed to cover up to 1 acre. We have 1/2 acre. Before the bugs were driving us nuts at night so we couldn't hang outside. Now we can. I highly recommend it! Yvonne
Yvonne - do you know what brand yours is? I so far haven't seen one for that large of an area and I'd like to go with the bigger one if I can. If you don't know, that's okay, and thanks for the recommendation. That's exactly our problem...we just can't do anything outside, day or night, in our backyard especially.
Are these the propane gas ones?? What do you mean exactly by 'sonic'?
It is called The Stinger I bought it at home depot for around $38
Thanks a lot Yvonne. We don't have a HOme Depot, so I'll check around on the internet. I've checked Lowe's and they have nothing like that unfortunately. Kate-These are not propane gas, although I've seen those. I think they are pretty pricey?? All I know is that the 'sonics' use batteries and emit multiple frequencies that mosquitoes apparently do not like. I have even seen keychain types where you can just hook them on you and they cover a 25sq.ft area. We are actually getting some of those, too.
I checked online for the stinger...apparently it is electric, which is a little different than what I was thinking of. Glad to hear that it works great though, so I'll consider it, too. Just can't seem to find much info/reviews about how the sonics work. I'll keep digging!
Oh I thought it was what you referring too. At any rate, the stinger works great! Two of our neighbors have bought their own since seeing how the bugs are avoiding our back yard.
Yvonne -(again!, sorry!) Does your stinger get rid of them during the day, too, or is it mainly a nighttime thing because of the light attraction? We're really thinking of getting one, but the mosquitoes are bad during the day here, too. Thanks!
I'm confused....an electric 'stinger' would just lure bugs to your yard and then kill them, correct? So it's not actually keeping them OUT of your yard, it's just keeping them from landing on humans?? And does it have that loud ZAP sound that bug zappers of yesteryear always had? I don't know about sonics and they sound too good to be true, but it sounds like a better idea if it's keeping the bugs from even flying into your yard... I know the propane ones work, too, but again, it's luring them into your yard so the machine can kill them. Those methods seem a bit bizarre in that you're purposely pulling bugs in from all over! We once bought a wrist thingy that was supposed to mimic mosquitoes' 'greatest enemy', the dragonfly. It was supposed to emit a high pitched sound which was supposed to sound like flapping dragonfly wings!!! Yes, the mosquitoes laughed so hard at us our blood kept dripping out of their mouths....
They seem to be avoiding our yard. Yes--we use it at night. We do not have a problem during the day.
