Got the bill for appendix Dan
Ohhh I feel sick now. lol... AFTER insurance it will be around $1900. Ugh, I miss the days of good insurance coverage, guess those days are gone. And #4 goes in to have his "spot" (big icky nevus) removed monday after next. OMG!
Check, recheck, and check your bill again. Also check your policy because you probably have an out-of-pocket maximum per person and per family. I've been the run around with hospitals, doctors, and insurance in the past 4 years with 2 surgeries ($25,000+ each) for me and lots of testing for DS' migraines and reflux. I have found many errors over the years. You can work out a payment plan with the hospital. Just faithfully document every payment and every phone call with the date, time, and name of person talked too and keep all bills and receipts in a folder.
Our out-of-pocket cost for Emily's appendix surgery was 10% of the whole bill, at $1100 plus a $250 hosptal co-pay, so $1350 total.
Our insurance has changed and now we pay a % of everything--bloodwork, office visits, surgery. My D&C last Summer cost quite a bit! I shutter to think how much it will cost to stay in the hospital and have this baby! It stinks! My DH works for an insurance company too! Go figure! Hang in there!
I just found out yesterday that our insurance is changing on the 1st of the year. We now have a family deductible and once it is met we pay 10% of everything! I was so upset, but what can you do.
Oh, and PamT has great advice. Make sure your bill is correct. When my Dad had heart problems last year, my parents got tons of bills. They went over them very carefully and they were double billed for some things.
The bill comes out as $200 a day copay plus 20% of allowed charges, plus $150 ded for surgical. And we pay about $3400 a year for premiums. Our office visit copay is $35, ER $150 and prescriptions for a 30 day supply is $50. I opened a medical reimbursement account at the begining of the year w/ dhs work and put in the max of $3000 which they take out $115 per payperiod to fund it. It is now gone and its ONLY JUNE. I expect we will spend over $5000 in medical expenses this year alone, $8500 if you figure the premiums. So what am I doing, going back to school, for nursing LOL.
Yes, definitely check the bill. Last time my son was in the hospital there were charges for various diagnostic tests that were NOT performed, running about $2,500.
Oh my Goodness! That is unbelievable. I guess I don't realize how lucky we are here in Canada. Thanks for the reality check.
