Ready to spit nails!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive May 2005: Ready to spit nails!
By Janet on Tuesday, May 17, 2005 - 11:25 am:

Three months ago, I had an abnormal result of a pap smear, and have been biting my nails, waiting for my drs appointment (in two weeks). I realized this morning that I'll have my period, so there you go. I called the dr just now to reschedule, and the receptionist must've been having a rotten day because of the way she answered the phone, and the way she handled me. She told me I'd have to wait until July, and I explained (calmly) that I was very nervous about waiting, and told her why. She said well, the dr usually schedules you for one every three months anyway, right? No, I said, it's yearly. But because it was abnormal, I needed one sooner. And back and forth, etc... I was about on the verge of tears when she told me she could get me in sooner if I wanted to pay for it (insurance won't cover it unless three months have gone by), and I asked her how much they were, and she sighed and said, "Oh, I don't know!" Finally, we negotiated on the week following the original appointment. Maybe it's nothing, but what if I find out there's something wrong and I should've got it taken care of sooner? (Wild imagination here). I know I'm just another phone call to her, but sheesh! I still feel like crying. :( Oh well, at least I don't have to wait until July now.

{{{{{Janet}}}}} Sorry she was so snippy. Let us know how the appointment goes. I'd tell you to try not to worry, but I know how that goes. More hugs.

First, call your insurance company and see if they do indeed require a 3 month wait if there is an abnormal pap smear. Second, when you see the doctor, tell him/her about your treatment by the receptionist.

Third, how about a nice long bubblebath and some private time for your tears. I do indeed understand and I would be furious and writing a letter to my doctor, if it were me. But on second thought I probably wouldn't mail it. I do urge you to find out what your insurance company says about this.

Janet, that just sucks! Tell the doctor when you go and see him. I got the run around one time from a temp. receptionist, the doctor had no idea that she was giving me a hard time, she apologized to me and got me what I need right away. Good luck sweetie!
