Color Blindness

I have always known that my Scotty (my oldest) was color blind. I could just tell by the time he started identifying colors because my father is color blind.

I had to have Gabe's eyes checked recently and they diagnosed him with color deficiency (which is what they used to call color blindness). It is so funny to check them and see what they see. They confuse blue and purple alot, but also red and green look alike. It is so weird. The funny thing is that they never knew they were different so they have adapted to identifying colors in their own way. They also don't see colors as vividly as most people.

Color deficiency is very rare but most common in males and they both got the gene passed on by my father.

There are several websites that show you what the world looks like to a colorblind person and it is just so interesting to me how they have adapted and never knew they were different.

Katherine, do you have a link to post? I think it would be very interesting and telling to see things as they see them!

This one has some pretty good pictures that help it make some sense. Color blindness and the different types are very complicated.

I found out I was colorblind around the age of 10.Both of my sons are colorblind. It really no big deal, the funniest thing was the look on the face of their kindergarden teachers when they found out, they were puzzled as to how to teach them. Both boys have learned to deal with it,and ask for help.My husband just shakes his head when we all start talking colors.LOL.Getting dressed on Sunday is a real event at our house.LOL

My dad is color blind. It's really not a big deal. Really, we just joke with him about it. He buys all the same color socks and has other people pick out dicorations. He also dresses very conservatively so you can't really mix that up badly. He did have trouble seeing through a micorscope in school, though.

I have a neighbor who is colorblind and my dh works with a guy who is also. My neighbor goes traveling to Canada in his motorhome and his wife has to tell him what color the stop lights are, since in the US they are vertical and in Canada they are horizontal, and he can't tell which way they go!
