Kidney stones
My mom spent all night in the ER in excruciating pain and was diagnosed with kidney stones after an ultrasound. They told her that the maximum size she could pass on her own is 5mm. Hers is 9. She has an appointment tomorrow afternoon with a urologist but she has no idea how the stone will be removed. Someone told her that she may have to have surgery, another person told her that there is some way to ultrasonically pulverize them. Does anyone know anything about how this will be handled or btdt with a stone that can't be passed normally? TIA
Oh first of all I am sooo sorry your mom is going through this I had a kidney stone and thought I was going to die. Thankfully I passed it on my own but my mom has had several stones, some she passed and others she had to have surgery for. Not much help but boy I know how bad they hurt. Hope all goes well.
DH had a stone & was in terrible pain. He was also able to pass it on his own, so I am no help there.
My Dad frequently gets kidney stones. VERY, very painful! They use lasers to break up the big ones. I hope this is over for her soon!
Oh, wow... that's rough Cori!! I don't have any knowledge of them, but I've heard of breaking them up with lasers so you can pass them. I hope she's feeling better soon!!
She went to the urologist yesterday and all he told her was that they would try to break it up in about three weeks! I cannot imagine living with the pain she is in for three weeks. She is a teacher and has to work for two more weeks before school is out. She was given pain pills but they make her too groggy to teach or drive so she can only take them at night. He told her to double them up at night because they might have a residual effect. Nope, she was just so knocked out that she slept through her alarm and didn't wake up for almost 13 hours. She's really upset, tired and in so much pain. I'm just frustrated that the doctor wasn't anymore helpful. She'll be seeing her general practitioner in the next few days and she's hoping that he can pull some strings so that she can have this taken care of a little sooner.
